I read Splendid Suns prior to Kite Runner. I am only now reading Kite Runner. The opening in which the author placed the label on (or branded)Mariam certainly seemed to hold true throughout the book and we learned further how those labels direct paths. I appreciated the definitions provided, and these two books and set me on a reading program to learn more of not only Afghanistan, but also Pakistan in "Three Cups of Tea."
