Reading Schedule and Spoiler Alerts

I wondered if we are going to get a schedule or weekly questions or something else that will keep this group going? And if we do, shouldn't we put spoiler alerts into the subject lines of posts that go beyond the scope of the present discussion? Some posters are probably assuming that everybody has read the whole book - and that is probably the case - but even then it would help to get guidance as to possible subjects/threads.

Good point, Sunltcloud. I have not finished the book yet and would appreciate some segmentation of the discussion and spoiler alerts in some of the more general discussions. Maybe we could have threads for:

Part 1 Mariam (Week 1)
Part 2 Laila (Week 2)
Part 3 (Week 3)
Part 4 (Week 4)

It would help me a lot. I really didn't know where to put things or where to focus my comments. At least with this arrangement I would know where to put things and it would help those like me stay away from the later part of the book that I haven't gotten to yet. In fact, I would probably spend some time back in Part 1 even though we are into week two. I thought we were still limited to first impressions and I was biding my time. Otherwise I would have made my remarks while they were still fresh in my mind from my reading.

The real question here is: Where is the moderator? I have been in these discussions before and the moderator should be providing the questions, responding to posts, etc. Our moderator seems to have gone on vacation.

Exactly. That's what I was trying to say in a round-about way.Once the book discussion is divided into a few chunks or the moderator has posted some questions then we can proceed at our own speed, posting in those threads we have knowledge about and leaving the rest until we get to that point in the book.

I agree totally. This schedule looks fine. If the moderator is willing, we should add our own new threads. I liked the one about the 3 Afghan men that Nadine posted. For those of us who have finished the book, maybe we could add some of our own as well.

And, yes please, let's add SPOILER ALERTS for those participating who haven't finished the book yet.

By the way, how do we add a new thread?

I would like to start one that focuses on the women (major as well as minor) of Afghanistan--their human tragedy and the grinding injustice inflicted on them.

Ibis, just return to the main page and click on "New Message" at the top and you will start a new thread. We can start whatever threads we wish. If the powers that be do not feel they belong or are a duplication of something else, they can move them elsewhere. Otherwise, open whatever discussions you are interested in. If you want to go off topic then open a "chat" or "off-topic" thread and we will know it doesn't relate to this topic.

Re: Reading Schedule and Spoiler Alerts

I am glad someone is trying to put together a schedule. Can we show the four parts of the schedule in separate message titles? This will give an immediate outline for comments as I still find the layout for comments confusing. Where is the moderator?

Nadine, thank you for the post re starting a new thread. I will add some that seem to have special interest for our fellow readers.

Can someone explain what a spoiler alert is?

Re: Reading Schedule and Spoiler Alerts

A spoiler alert is a note in the message subject that tells people who haven't read the whole book yet, that the post contains information they might not want to read. If you post outside the chapter divisions a spoiler alert will tell me not to look at your post until I have arrived at that spot in the book.
