You've mentioned one of my favorites! Do you know she designed her own house specifically for the maximum pleasure of socializing? Of course, she wrote her novels in the comfort of her bedroom. Those novels. . . nothing like Lily Bart in House of Mirth. I had a tremendous crush on her. Anyone who thinks that Anna Nicole invented this whole useless beauty thing should read this novel.
I'm sure you all have discussed this somewhere on here before but let me add that cspan did a wonderful series a while back about American writers. Most episodes were filmed at the authors' homes and great discussions were offered up on how their life and times influenced what they wrote and vise versa. Edith Wharton's home was one of the places they visted in this series. It was a wonderful series.

I enjoy reading Edith Wharton's works and even though House of Mirth is not my favorite I would enjoy a discussion on this book.

It's not my fave either! Which of her novels are your favorite? Mine is by far Age of Innocence and then I read this heartbreaking little short novel (or novella I guess you could say) called Summer and I really enjoyed it.

Oh yes. I love Age of Innocence. I've read it so many times. I also enjoy the movie and think that it was just so beautifully made. I haven't read Summer. I'll have to look for it.
