Kyung-Sook Shin was awarded the 2011 Man Asian literary prize for her novel about the search for a mother who disappears at a train station in Seoul. The novel was lauded for its commentary about changes occuring in traditional Korean society by focusing on the perspectives of different family members. Please Look After Mom is the first novel by Shin to be published in the United States and has become an international bestseller.
Please join Literature by Women this month as we read our first novel by an East Asian author and bring your thinking caps as we think about books to read in July and August.
