Welcome from your Moderator!

Welcome to the Barnes and Noble online discussion of Arthur Phillips marvelously haunting third novel, Angelica. Despite the opening claim of the novel itself that it is not a ghost story, you’ll likely turn the lights up pretty bright when you stay up late to sink into it. The wisps of something possibly seen, the creaks and cracks, the terror of not being able to protect your own sleeping child in your own home--can do more to chill a reader than most horror films!

If you’re familiar with Phillips' first two novels, I think you’ll find his range tremendously impressive. He has captured, in his poetic prose, an early twentieth century archaeologist going insane, young American hipsters in Budapest in the late twentieth century, and here, a small household of Victorians in London, caught up in the terrors of their interlocking psychological, scientific, social, spiritual, and sexual worlds!

I can’t wait to hear what you think!

Hi, Kathy!

Good to see your name on a post here! I've been absorbed in the Harry Potter groups for the past few months.

Rachel -

My friend in Oklahoma, Curtis, was in one of the first groups for the previous book and the group was filled with mostly young people - pre-teen and teen. How have the groups been lately?
