Avatar officially the biggest movie of the year, with over $70M world-wide in its opening weekend and an IMDB ranking placing it at #25 all-time (as of 12/21/2009).
Did any of you see it? What did you think? If you didn't see it, will you?

Oh Yes. Could not go this weekend due to 14" of snow and ice, now it looks like it will be after 25 to have the time clear too. (deep sigh)

I saw it on the 23rd. Took my son, nephew and niece. We saw it at the IMAX. I would recommend that movie to anyone. I definitely love it and I am ready to see it again and again. Beautifully done.

I saw "Avatar" in 3-D... it's one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. The visuals blew me away.
Granted the love story itself is derivative, and the dialogue wooden...
But the attention to detail, the vivid, saturated colors, the e-motion capture... the eye-movements.... I found it believable. I worried that the alien characters would look like computerized mass duplicates. But even in the crowd scenes, the Na'vi characters had distinct personalities and uniquely physical looks and behaviors.
The physicality of the special effects was incredible... I felt as if I was running through Pandora's rain forests with these amazing creaturesl... swooping through Alpine gorges on huge birds... racing with those 6-legged horses... I almost felt the wind blowing through my hair...
I loved the cinematic experience. This is what I've always wanted adventure movies to be. Definitely worth seeing.

Ok I've seen this twice in 3D and 2D. And yes it's wonderful!
But did anyone else think the 3D was less than smooth than other 3D resent movies? The glasses were also cheeper looking to boot. Freaking left arm kept breaking off on me.

TiggerBear: That is so annoying!
My husband and I tried 3 times to see it in 3D and failing that, finally saw it in 2D. I thought it was great. I thought the story was fine, the dialogue ok... not a lot of witty repartee, but really, that's not what I would have expected, either.
Sure, it was a bit hack with the corporate monster thing, and the over-the-top military dude, but these devices work for most audiences! I also explained to my nephews (10 and 8) that if they like this sort of thing, which they did, maybe they might check out some other movies, like "Dances with Wolves" with new eyes. I'll bet they still need the flash and dash to draw them in, though.
I thought it was great!

I saw Avatar over the holiday. I'd say that unless you see it in 3D there are better options out there. Visually, it is stunning, but I feel like Cameron has a bit of the George Lucas disease where they care more about the technology then the story. It isn't a bad movie at all, but not a great one.

My Husband and I saw Avatar two days ago. We both agreed it was the best movie we had ever seen; and we will be going to see it again next week. We did see it at IMAX; I can't imagine seeing it any other way. I was totally engrossed in the movie; even found myself moving as if I was a part of it.
