Shelves empty on reboot?

I have had my STR for a year now, and know its workings pretty well. I understand that shelves get reset when there is a firmware update (a problem which i am patiently waiting for B&N to fix).  However, two weeks after firmware update, I had to restart my nook because of a responsiveness issue.  When the STR booted back up, all my shelves were empty and it seems that only some of my files are showing up.

thoughts?

Go to the settings page and see what software version the nook is currently running. It may have reset to an earlier software version if you were having problems.

Plug your nook into your PC and see if the files are still on the drive and just not showing up in the interface or are actually gone. If the files are there back them up to your computer.

It could have been a bad install of the last update or it could be hardware related. Ultimately you will need to call customer support.

I was indeed rounding up, as I wasn't pulling my warranty out to check the exact date without reason.  I was unaware that it happened on any powered down reboot.  I'll definitely think twice before rebooting it to unstick the touchscreen again.  Thanks for the answer!

After suffering from this issue and getting quite perturbed I think I stumbled upon something.

It would seem that Wi-Fi needs to be on all the time to retain shelf contents.

Today I updated the firmware to 1.1.2 hoping that would fix the shelves but it didn't. I'd re-populate

the shelves, save, turn off the STR and upon restart the shelves are empty save for the Nook manuals

and two free books.

On a hunch I turn on Wi-Fi, refill the shelves. Each time I save one I see a little activity on the wifi

indicator on my router. Then I hit the little refresh/reload button and see more activity.

I also noticed that when wifi is off my library menu only has four entries (All, Books, Shelves, My Files) but when connected I get a full menu including extras like Newsstand, LendMe, Archive, etc. (But not

always it seems as now I'm still connected and menu shows only those four entries. I guess I get

the full menu only once(?)).

Anyway, I turn off the STR while wifi is still on. Wait awhile, turn it on and my shelves are intact.

Repeat to make sure and yes the shelves are fine.

Ach! But wait. I'm testing as I'm writing this. A third time, with wi-fi on, the shelves are still lost.

So this time I redo the shelves but hit the reload/refresh/whatever button (where I see router

activity) but they're still lost.

And I thought I was on to something because the shelves were retained for awhile.

Oh well, this turned into a useless post.  :mansad:

I would really like the shelves to work. Time to start looking for another reader, maybe.

The only problem I've had with unshelving is with sideloaded content (all of which is on an SD card for me).

It unshelves with any reboot, update related or not. This is a known issue they can't seem to get around to fixing.

Also, you're probably rounding up, but how have you had your NST for a year, when it's only been out since June 2011?
