Although most NOOKbooks are available for all NOOK devices and apps, some are not. The B&N page for the NOOKbook has a dropdown that says, "Read exclusively on these devices & apps," which lists the compatible devices and apps.
Issue #1: The customer has to notice the link and click on it. For NOOKbooks that are unusable on one or more platforms, this should be clearly called out. For NOOK Color Read-to-me NOOKbooks, at least the dropdown is automatically down.
Issue #2: The list says "NOOK" without specifying which edition. For example, Merriam-Webster's Pocket Dictionary says that it's readable on NOOK, which won't be true for the new NOOK because that model can't read eReader PDB.
Some examples of limited e-books:
Merriam-Webster's Pocket Dictionary
Format: eReader PDB only
Devices: NOOK 1E only [but it only says "NOOK"]
Apps: NOOK for PC, NOOK for iPhone, B&N eReader (Blackberry)
Spying in High Heels (High Heels Series #1)
Format: EPUB only [as is true of all PubIt! titles]
Devices: All
Apps: All except B&N eReader (Blackberry)
Format: enhanced EPUB
Devices: NOOK Color only
Apps: NOOK Kids for iPad only
A related situation exists with periodicals, but I'm not familiar enough with those to provide specifics.

Excellent point, Doug! This and other aspects of the new, "streamlined" design seem to put key info in unexpected spots, or require a certain amount of drill down to see.

Great suggestions, adding them to our discussion list with the website redesign team. Thank you!

This brings to mind once again certain problems/issues with the shop function on any nook devices. The listings do not aptly describe the product listed. As one user here points out there are ebooks that talk about an included CD. I've seen some that say they are the audio version or talk about who the narrator is or that reference something on the enclosed DVD. Call me silly, but I think if a listing says that there are some that will say they should be getting that. It seems to be that some of the nookbook descriptions are just off-what could help is to have clear links for people to list problems with a listing. I've suggested it in another area, but I was reminded of this when I saw the issue about the CD.

THANK YOU!! This is exactly why I joined the forum this morning. I bought 2 enhanced nook books last night and when I couldn't download them on my iPad2, started an hour-long trek into what was wrong.
I ended up speaking to a customer service rep who told me that there IS a notation on the enhanced books page online that tells you if it's available for other devices, but unfortunately, those are few and far between. You can scroll through 1 or 2 pages of books before you see one that has a notation (off to the FAR right, by the way.) Otherwise, it's just assumed that you're shopping for a Nook color device. No where on the main header of the page or sidebar does it say anything about being only supported on the NC.
I'm a fairly observant and careful shopper, but the enhanced nook book section is one of the least informative and unclear shopping experiences I've had recently.
B&N, please put a disclaimer at the TOP of the enhanced book page that says these are only supported on Nook color UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE. This would save loyal users a lot of time and will save you from having to issue refunds to unhappy customers like myself.
