By having friends who also own Nooks.
Some people feel comfortable posting their email address online here or in other forums, but that kind of belies the purpose and intent of the program.

You have to become a NOOK Friend with someone 1st and then you can view their Lend Me Books..
Here is a post that has people requesting to be friends..
The more Nook Friends you have the more Lend Me Books you will have available to you to read..
Friends = Free Books to Read... ![]()

Because the obvious original intent and purpose of the program was to replicate, as much as possible, the act of physically lending DTBs to people you know. It was meant to encourage people to expose their existing social circle to new books/authors.
It's one thing to extend that to your online-only friends, who you may have developed a relationship with through posts, conversations, emails, IMs, etc. Entirely another just posting your email and inviting the world of strangers to share with you.
It's pretty much that type of behavior, along with Amazon adopting a similar program, that caused many publishers to drop their participation in LendMe. My worry is that if people continue to engage in offering unfettered access to their personal libraries, B&N and publishers will see no upside (i.e. profit) in continuing with the program. Or worse, decide to start having two versions of each book: the non-lendable and lendable, which of course will cost even more.

I posted my email on the "friends needs friends" posting not for just the LEND ME reason and I'm sure (I Hope) I'm not the only one..
I flat out NEED FRIENDS that READ... However the Lend Me is a awesome extra..
I don't know very many people that like to read and I really like looking at what my friends I "collected" on my Nook Friends list post on the Activities Wall.. It helps me decide if I'd be interested in reading the book they are/have reading/read.. It has also helped me pick out my next book to read.. Also allows me to read books I'd never think twice of reading..
So I really hope not everyone thinks the only reason people search out for friends is just to "lend them a book".. Not to mention I have became pretty good "chat friends" with two people I became friends with by just posting my email up there..
Hope everyone has a good read today..
