Dead In The Family
Status: Bookseller Picks
Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse / Southern Vampire Series #10)
I love love love the Sookie Stackhouse books! It's like jumping into someone else's weird world every time I read one. Each of Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Series books is deliciously entertaining and I have been enjoying reading about Sookie's life and adventures since book one!
Dead In The Family picks up after the Fairy War, which was traumatic for Sookie both mentally and physically. Things should be getting back to normal as she continues her steamy relationship with Eric, but trouble is always around the corner in Bon Temp, LA. Not only does Sookie have an unwanted house guest, but tensions are rising over the recently outted Shifters. Nothing is ever easy when Supes are involved.
These books are endlessly entertaining, but at the same time, not much happens throughout the book. Honestly, I like that. It's like peaking into Sookie's world and experiencing all of the weirdness with her. I now impatiently look forward to book 11 as Harris has kept my intrigue and has also set up a lot upon which to continue.

I am currently reading Dead in the Family. I love the Sookie Stackhouse series. I didn't know that she was coming out with book 11 in the series. I'm excited to know what that one will be all about.

I really thought this latest book left much to be desired. Being a huge Charlaine Harris fan I waited very impatiently for Dead in the Family to release. I pre-ordered and the morning it released I ran to my Nook and began reading. Maybe I had too high of expectations? I'm not really sure. But I do know that I kept waiting for something to actually happen and nothing ever did. I will read any other books she puts out in this series because I completely adore Sookie Stackhouse, but this book is not one of my favorites.

I have read all the Sookie books too but I have to say I was not impressed at all with this one. It was slow, boring and not much of a story line in my opinion. My daughter and her friends have all read the series and they did not like Dead In The Family either. If you check out the reviews you will see that most people were not very happy with it. I hope the next one will be more in keeping with the series or I will have so say buh bye to Ms. Harris.

avid_reader1590, I agree with you completely. I think "Dead in the Family" is a transitional book. The next one should be much better. ***I hope***.
If you haven't visited the author's website recently, here's a link to the first chapter of "Dead Reckoning". 3monstersmom's was kind enough to post it earlier this week over on the paranormal boards.

I have read all of the Sookie Stackhouse novels and short stories. However, I have not enjoyed the last couple of novels in the series as much as in the previous books. My impression of the last few was that the plots could have been tightened and written as novellas rather than full length novels. Alternatively, perhaps the books could have had more story to the story, if you will. That said, I still intend to continue to read every book and story in the Sookie-verse that Ms Harris offers.

Sarah 3975, thanks so much for the link! I do hope Dead Reckoning will be more like the old Sookie books; it looks promising.
I always give authors that I love the benefit of doubt but if they continue to disappoint then I have to move on. There are several “star” authors who I no longer read as I feel they are now writing on their name alone to sell novels. ![]()
