Strange people appearing in her digital pictures and a life that is changing faster than she can keep track of is what's in store for Madison as her family goes on a "vacation" to Sandyland, a run down beach community far from her suburban home. Her father is supposed to be on a construction job and her mother has actually gotten a job at a local grocery store. There are no vacation activities like eating out and her father forgot her suitcase, leaving her in only one change of clothes. She meets a couple of local kids and with her camera in tow, tries to make the best of things. When Madison takes a picture with a strange old woman appearing in the shot, things begin to get even more bizarre. Madison misses her friends and her home but has to decide what is more real, the kids she has befriended over the summer or the ones she left behind. What direction is her life heading and who will she become?
This is a great read that hits the current economic hardships that many of us are experiencing. Throw in a supernatural twist, a really cute boy and some self discovery and you have a great story that will keep you turning the pages.
