The Host

Status: Bookseller Picks

How does memory constitute identity?  What is it to be human?  Such immense questions underlie much of the gripping drama in Stephanie Meyer's latest novel, The Host.  Melanie, a protagonist of this psychological thriller, guides her other part using memories and her internal voice.  She helps her other part to adapt to new challenging emotions, pains, and relationships.  Trapped between two societies, they find themselves on a quest to find loved ones and learn who can be trusted.  If you did not find any interest to read Meyer's Twilight series, than perhaps you were waiting for her to exhibit her talent in this science fiction novel that is likely to be the premiere of a new exciting series.

This book is LONG...so be ready. I really liked it, though, and could picture it as a movie the entire time I read it. Stick with it if the beginning seems too weird and have an open mind, but a Sci/Fi lover should be okay with it. Note: I am NOT a sci/fi lover:smileyhappy:

I agree that the beginning is choppy, but persistance will pay off in the long run. The story is unique and left me hanging at the end. I would enjoy this book leading to a series; there are too many unanswered questions.

It took some time to get into this novel, I had really been looking forward to it after reading her Twilight series.  Once I felt invested inteh characters I was hooked but it wasn't as immediate as it is in some books.  Definitely a worthwhile read.

Although I do agree that the book was long, it was a very fast read.  The lengh should not be a factor in reading this engaging book.  The story is unique and interesting and it is very easily visualized while reading.

I really liked this book.  It was Sci-Fi all the way and with the touches of romance it gave it a more surreal feel to the book.  The Twilight series may be a trend setter, but THE HOST is a better book with some interesting ideas to boot.

I have also heard they were making this into a movie... Cant be too hard... it was already done before... Invasion of The Body Snatchers.

I also agree that the beginning is choppy, but I believe it was meant to be like that.  It made it more interesting as the narrator evolved throughout the book. I would recommend it to teens and adults.

This book did start out a little slow. It didnt start like the Twilight Series. But once I got into it I couldnt put it down. My friend actually had to steal the book out of my hands. This book is worth the read and much better than twilight. If they didnt make it into a movie I would be disappointed.

You tend to get pulled between the characters the love of each of them. Their devotion to the human race. This book contains love, lust, betrayal, friendship and family. Anyone who liked the twilight book would love The Host

I'd be interested in hearing more about how this book compares with the Twilight series.  Are there some similar relationships or conflicts between the characters?
