I was surprised to read that Corey married Clara!
“After retiring from the flash-memory card company that he’d founded he’d set to the task of improving the lot of women in Canada. This was very interesting of course to Clara, who works for the League of Women Voters now, but it appeared to be even more so to our daughters.” (pg. 322)
I didn’t see that coming! Did anyone else?
Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.

I loved how we were gently not told who Corey had married for hundreds of pages! I can't imagine how Ethan can have devised doing this so gracefully. It's kind of acrobatic--how to let a character seem to speak openly and casually about his spouse without actually revealing who she is!
My suspicion was that Corey had broken with the family, dismissed them, and married someone who would not have fit into that social circle. In an odd way, Clara fits!
