I'm a professional musician; I read portions of well written passages out loud because I love hearing rhythms...  both verbal and musical.

Have you read Paradise Lost out loud? Absolutely fantastic!

Are you instrumental or voice, and what?  I used to play French Horn semi-professionally (that is, I played for money, but never seriously enough to make a living at it), but gave it up long ago for lack of time to keep my embrochure in shape, and now play only for my own pleasure.

Re: Feather Man discussion participants: Please introduce yourselves!

Hi Everyman, yes I have read most of the world's great poetry and epics out loud... Dante, Shakespeare, Blake, Donne... poetry is meant to be read out loud.... so when I come across well-written prose, it's almost miraculous.

I am a violinist with a major symphony in Boston, as well as participate in small string quartets...

Being able to play any instrument, even if only for one's personal pleasure, is a great gift. You are blessed.

Re: Feather Man discussion participants: Please introduce yourselves!

Hi,

My name is David and I live (temporarily) in Tucson, Arizona.  I have started the book; it is too early for me to make any comments as I enjoy the writing, but I'm somewhat lost as to the content (if that makes sense).  I too look forward to the conversations as perhaps I'm missing things because I spend so much time re-reading sections of the book.

Hi david,
I read "Feather Man" quickly the first time... just to get the plot lines in place. Then I reread it, going back and forth over certain sections.... just to savour the delicious writing.

So re-reading sections is a good thing... you may be rewarded with small nuggets of sharply polished gems of prose.

Re: Feather Man discussion participants: Please introduce yourselves!

Hello!

I'm Pamela, an RN from northern Colorado. I'm joining this a little late too. I'll probably join the discussion a little later in the month. I need to finish my face to face book club book first  (due Thursday). I've been on vacation since the beginning of the month and had planned to read during this time but gosh darn it! the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone just kept me too distracted! And, my parents from NM were with me so I had little time to read. Hopefully will be able to finish FM within a week (may have to restart). Look forward to the discussion. I like the diversity of the readers!

They have lived in Las Cruces since 1958. Did I see you lived in OK? They are originally from SW OK.
