I just came across an old note while i was saving to disc. It was about friendship being closely connected to financial success, and being so connected, the meaning of friendship is something lost or perhaps something that has changed.
Beaufort's financial failure meant the loss of his friends, his social circle, if you will- he had to retire in another country. I think that this was, for the most part, true of Shelley's time and still true today.
