EMMA: Scheduled Guests!

[ Edited ]

Guests.  Guests.  For EMMA, we have 2 guests who will be stopping by to chat with us about the novel and new PBS film adaptation.

Week of Jan. 25-29 (between 1st and second episodes):

  • Prof. Joan Ray, author of Jane Austen for Dummies, and past President of the Jane Austen Society of North America will rejoin us.

Jane Austen For Dummies

Week of Feb. 1-5 (between the second and final episodes):

  • BAFTA-winning screenwriter, Sandy Welch. Ms. Welch wrote the screenplay for the new adaptation of EMMA that we will be viewing on PBS this month.  See a Q&A page with Ms. Welch on the PBS website here to help you gear up with your own questions for her!

Excited yet?  Join us!

I'll set up separate threads for each of these guests soon.

Sounds delightful!  Many thanks to you and B&N for arranging and supporting these!

Re: EMMA: Scheduled Guests!

I believe that Professor Ray was one of our guests last year, and was (obviously!) very knowledgeable about Austen.  I look forward to her and our other guest (and a certain person is no longer here to nitpick the screenplays to death - although I do miss him).

Yes, indeed!  Prof. Ray was here during our last read-along with PBS when we did Sense & Sensibility in February.

I think our screenwriter guests probably always expect readers in our book club to compare the book to the screenplay, though, yes, maybe with a little less rigor than some members have shown in the past!  :smileyhappy:

You're very welcome, Pepper!  I enjoyed the read-along with PBS last year and think a lot of our members did, too.
