Le Mis Help

I just bought a copy of Le Mis from a Salvation Army store.  It looked brand new, so the 2$ price was a bargain.

THEN I noticed that a section near the back is bound/cut incorrectly and I'm missing several lines at the bottom of each of the pages.

Is there anyone who can help me fill in those missing lines?? Either a scan of the pages or something??

It's in the last section, "JEAN VALJEAN".  Starting in "Book First" Chapter 12 "GLEAMS WHICH PASS" and ending with the first page of chapter 22 "FOOT TO FOOT" (example: the last page of incorrectly cut pages ends at:

"behind him.  All rushed in, Enjolras executing with his carbine, which he"

then picks up again on page 1079 (correctly cut) at:

"bayonets about him and before him, and entered last of all; and for an"

So there's not MUCH missing, but probably enough to confuse me.

In my copy, it's pages 1047 to 1078.

Considering the large bottom margin, I'm probably not missing more than maybe 2-3 lines on each page.

CAN SOMEBODY HELP?

Hi Smoochie,

There should be an ISBN on the back of the book, near the barcode, or on the copyright page.  If you post that, it might help the other readers know if they have that particular edition.

I was going to suggest you could read it at Project Gutenberg, but clearly it's a different translation. http://www.gutenberg.org/files/135/135-h/135-h.htm

The section you cite reads:

All precipitated themselves thither. Enjolras, executing with his rifle, which he now used like a cane, what single-stick players call a "covered rose" round his head, levelled the bayonets around and in front of him, and was the last to enter; and then ensued a horrible moment, when the soldiers tried to make their way in, and the insurgents strove to bar them out.

"precipitated themselves thither"???? That's amazingly bad.

A problem with Gutenberg, when it comes to foreign books. Especially for such a huge work as Les Mis, they need to pick one public domain translation. I can't help but think there must have been another one better than this, but maybe this was the best (or just the first?) that they could find.
