I am having a major memory lapse on the name of this classic. It was required reading in one of my early college courses...(I am in my 50s so that's where the memory fails
) The story is about a turn of the century married woman whose well to do family spends the summers on an island off the coast somewhere in the Southern part of the US. She is very unhappy in her marriage and on one of those summers meets a younger man and falls in love but it is unthinkable to divorce in those days. I remember it had a sad out come because if she left she would not be able to take her children. Anyone have any idea what the title to this book is?

I read and knit and dance. Compulsively feel yarn. Consume books. Darn tights. Drink too much caffiene. All that good stuff.
