OK, Only by popular vote, of which I was not a part of, here are the selections for October and November:
October: overwhelmingly, it is....... DRUM ROLL....
Phantom of the Opera
and for November:
....dadadadadadad........ Do I REALLY have to break this tie??
<continued drumroll.... >
I can't-- really, I can't.....
SO.......
here we go.....
Without further ado...
we have....
a choice!! (or both, because I haven't ever read either one):
A Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
AND/OR
The Fountain Overflows-- Rebecca West.
Now, let me say this: I will soon get a basic thread or two about each one.
AND:
Please feel free to add any threads that you want about any of the reads! I accept that I do not know enough about any of the choices to adequately address how to break down these books. I will be honest enough to say I have not read ANY of these, but plan to. So I need to get a couple of these in my hands myself! PLEASE: feel free to start any thread that you feel as necessary. I am NOT the be all to end all. Just a peon that is willing to be brave enough to tackle the role as 'moderator'.
This is 'OUR' board, and I feel that everyone has an equal say in the way we operate (if that is the right word).
Ok-- lets read and discuss!!
A more detailed scheduled will be posted by me- or any other member!!
xoxo

I'm in For a Picture of Dorian Gray in November
My first read along after a year or more of lurking!
I already own it, so maybe I'll start early.

Looking forward to Dorian Gray in November as well. Is the plan to do both of those selections in November then?

Yes,
However, you do not need to read both, pick one. Since I have never read either one I will try read both between now and then. But if someone chooses to read both, that is their choice.

This is my first day on the Classics board so could someone please tell me how this board works. I am looking forward to reading The Phantom of the Opera for October and will have to decide if I want to read one or both in November. Look forward to discussing with everyone.

We are a fairly relaxed group here! I will get discussion threads started and up on Oct. 1.
If you are reading any classic book, at any time, feel free to start a thread for discussion, or to keep your own thoughts.

Sounds like good choices for Oct. and Nov. Will pull out my copy of Phantom... it's around here somewhere, and I can't wait to discuss Dorian Gray. I have read through half of it and I need a reason to pick it up again!

I am looking forward to reading A Picture of Dorian Gray. It is a book that I have often thought about reading since it is so widely referenced in the Arts.

Hi Mountain_Muse,
Sorry, but the thread you are responding to is from last year! This year we no longer have a moderator, and are trying to keep the forum going with user suggestions (although I have to admit that I haven't been much help lately), so do you have any ideas?

I'd like to have a moderator too. It's more fun with a set schedule, IMHO of course ![]()

That;s up to Barnes & Noble. They eliminated a bunch of moderators a while back. Us users have been moderating since then to keep this going. If a book that you want to discuss gets selected, you could moderate it. I can give some direction to you or anybody else that wants to moderate a discussion, since I've participated in a lot of them and did moderate some so far on this board.
Just to let everybody know, I just got laid off today, so maybe I will be able to get back to Shirley Jackson, after all.
