Ugh, that sucks. I'm so sorry. With regards to a book selection, can we organize a vote or something for Aug and Sept?

Thanks. Sure, I can start a thread to ask for nominations.

Sorry, but the thread you are responding to is from last year! This year we no longer have a moderator, and are trying to keep the forum going with user suggestions (although I have to admit that I haven't been much help lately), so do you have any ideas?
How do you go about obtaining a new moderator?

That;s up to Barnes & Noble. They eliminated a bunch of moderators a while back. Us users have been moderating since then to keep this going. If a book that you want to discuss gets selected, you could moderate it. I can give some direction to you or anybody else that wants to moderate a discussion, since I've participated in a lot of them and did moderate some so far on this board.
Just to let everybody know, I just got laid off today, so maybe I will be able to get back to Shirley Jackson, after all.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss of work. My heart is with you. We went through that two years ago and moved into extended retirement. :-) I spend a lot of time with Debbie over on the General Fiction Board. She is wonderful. My participation is seasonal, and dependent on the guest load of our volunteers staying at the Habitat Lodge that we host full-time.
Participating in these boards has been a life-saver for me and I love the interaction and mental stimulation. Besides...I have a need to read. :-) and this is a great way to do it and meet new friends at the same time.

Dulcinea -- sorry to learn this news! I saw something earlier this weekend that was more recent that alluded to your job status, and then this! I haven't been checking this board for some time.

So I guess that means we do not have a book assigned to read.? I'm a little confused.
It looks to me as if
Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy is up for discussion October 2011.
I just bought a copy last week, but didn't expect to get to it soon -- I was just taking advantage of B&N's three-for-two classics sale. I may now reconsider.
EscapeJH -- I hope your time and interests will allow you to participate.
I've been "away" from this board for awhile, so I, too, am a little confused, but it looks to me as they have also made a choice for November. Maybe with a little searching we can figure that out. Pepper

Thanks, Pepper! I did really need a break, because I had been feeling very burnt out, so I am not in a great hurry to get back to work, although I know I must eventually.

Hi, I'm new to book clubs in B&N. I'd like to read the Fountain Overflows by Rebecca West.
Just ordered it online and should be getting it within this month.

This is an old thread from a year ago that used to be stickied at the top. Even the moderator hasn't been here in a year's time.
So there's a group of us who take turns moderating a monthly selection. Chad also posts his reading line-up for several months and has several ongoing discussions.
Here's the October/November 2011 information

Hi Annie, and welcome! I just wanted to say that although we discussed Dorian Gray a while ago, if you scroll through the threads on this board you can find the discussion that we had, which may be of interest to you while you are reading it. And of course you are free to post whatever additions you want to those threads, although you may or may not get replies at this point.
