AppAnnie, the app analytics company, is now tracking ebook sales as "a better way to track ebook sales". Their October 8 "Big Books Dominate, but Self-Publishing's On the Up" infographic shows their ebook store stats (apparently only based on Apple iBookstore and Amazon Kindle stores). A few notable points:
- They show romance titles outselling all others in the self-pub categories. (Not sure what they classify as romance though.)
- They show ebook sales outpacing print and audio by 2016-17.
Obviously, AppAnnie (BookAnnie?) is selling something -- their analytics -- but they're claiming to know what's selling where. How meaningful that is if they're only tracking two stores is open to discussion, but they are the "big" stores. Of course, WalMart is a big store, but sales there don't reflect my buying habits.
