What are you trying to download?
What Adobe are you referring to?
Where are you trying to download to?

Thanks for responding. I am trying to download a nookbook purchased at B&N online to my Nook. I keep getting a message that the Adobe Reader could not open the file because it is either not a supported file type or because file has been damaged, e.g. sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly coded. It does look like when I press the download button on B&N on line that the book is then sent from edelivery.barnesnoble. Any ideas?

It sounds like you have Adobe Digital Editions installed to automatically grab all EPUB downloads. ADE shouldn't be involved in a B&N download. Adobe hasn't updated ADE to handle B&N EPUBs.
Perhaps if you tell us what system you're running (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac Snow Leopard, or whatever) someone can tell you how to get your computer reconfigured to not send all EPUBs to ADE.

Do you not have access to WiFi, is that why you are trying to download it via the PC?
If so, when you click the download button, click the save option, not the open option. Find a location on your computer and save the book. Then connect the Nook and copy it to My Documents.
Or, for an easier way, download Nook for PC. Sign into your account in Nook for PC. Then click the sync button. It will download your B&N books from the website. Connect your Nook to your computer and Nook for PC should recognize it and ask if you want to manage devices. Say yes. At the transfer window, click the library check button. Find your book and click the left facing arrow. Make sure you eject the Nook properly by going to My Computer or Windows Explorer and right mouse click on the Nook drive and select eject. Once the Nook exits USB Mode and returns to reading mode, go to My Documents and if it isn't there, tap check for new content.

I have Windows 7 and what you have suggested sounds complicated for me, so if anyone can provide a simple step by step way to reconfigure my computer as Doug suggests, it will be appreciated.

Thank you. I will give this a try. Yes, I have access to WiFi at home, but not in my office and I purchased a book online there. I haven't had any problems loading from WiFi. I think your suggestions will help.
BTW - thanks for the info on properly exiting the USB mode. I've been trying to find out how to do that too.

You can download the book when you get home directly to the Nook. Whether or not you can make changes to a computer at work, add programs, etc, would depend on the security settings they have in place.
