Because a message board, no matter how wonderful, is no substitute for actually sitting down with a friend and exchanging theories on your favorite series.
I don't have a lot in common with my friends, reading-wise. I almost exclusively read fantasy, which is not a very mainstream genre. But there are a few exceptions.
My brother and I, between us, have all of Terry Pratchett's books. We endlessly quote them, reference our favorite scenes, and play Discworld Hangman. ("It's a place, and it has four letters. No A E I O U or Y. Give up? X X X X").
I just discovered that a long-time friend of mine in school also love Terry Pratchett. We had fun the other night, comparing favorite books.
A big suprise was that another classmate read A Song Of Ice And Fire. I go to a fairly conservative religious college, and I'd have thought that George Martin would be a bit too racy for the average student. I guess she's not the average student. We spent the last few Hebrew classes exchanging fan theories.
"Fear not, for our army is strong and courageous."
"Just hope they don't sober up before we get there".

Nope, I don't know many people who like to read, that I know of. The people I do know like to read more romance and non-fiction based books while I'm a more fantasy based reader. I do tend to babble to anyone I know who will listen to what I read, but they could just be possibly feigning interest in what I have to say. There is rare occasions when I might have read something somebody else I know has read leading to 5 minute discussions, the two exceptions being Harry Potter and graphic novels, which can get rather long.

I don't really have anyone either. My bf reads a lot so we exchange books and have small conversations about them when we see each other. As far as my other friends and people I see at work everyday, no. They watch more t.v. than read and I'm the opposite. I try to listen to my friend Jess when she talks about her fav shows like Lost, 24 and Bones and she tries to listen to me when I talk about the books I read. I can't help but to feel that I bore her to death, lol. "Dalena, you're rambling again." LOL.

I don't really have anyone to talk to about books unless you consider my dad asking me how this book was but not really listening when I answer or he wants to know if it's going to be a movie lol. There was one book that my husband actually enjoyed reading
"The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins but that is the only book I have ever been able to get him into, he is a movie person to LOL. So I can't wait until the next book
"Catching Fire" comes out and neither can he so excited Sept. 1st Woot! Woot! lol. So thats pretty much why I get on here for book talk, ides and fun too.

This, however, was Hallandren: land of Returned gods, Lifeless servants, BioChromatic research, and - of course - color." Warbreaker By Brandon Sanderson

Nope, I really don't have anyone with whom to discuss books. I think that's why I find the B&N book clubs so fascinating.
In real life, not many people would really understand why I get so excited about discovering a great book or waiting for a book to be delivered. People here get it! I like that!
