I agree with Vermontcozy, the cover definitely needs to show the feel of the book.
Sadly I fall into the bad habit of looking at only covers, but when you're staring the the whole Non-fiction section, you need something to catch your eye. But covers help portray the book, such as Jane Austen's books. From the Sense and Sensibilty cover I can tell that it's going to be a period story about a couple girls, at the least.
Covers definitely help.

Good idea!
Love this one--though the picture isn't really explained until the second book in the series:
I'm still trying to think of one I don't like... Remember, if I didn't like the cover (judgemental!
) I probably didn't read it and therefore don't remember it, so...

"Bright colors, Vasher thought. I'll have to get used to those again. In any other nation, the vibrant blues and yellows would have been ridiculous on soldiers. This, however, was Hallandren: land of Returned gods, Lifeless servants, BioChromatic research, and - of course - color." Warbreaker By Brandon Sanderson

I love these covers, they're very creative. The graphics and colors accurately captured the tone of the books; and after reading the books, I was not disappointed. I didn't feel that the covers had mislead me.

Have you seen this one yet, IBIS?
And just wait until you read it. It's better than Dragon Tattoo.
