Help: Can't remember author or title . . .

I have been trying to remember the name and author of a novel I read about 5-6 years ago. I'll do my best to describe it, hope someone can help.

It is a series of short stories that are all connected through the fact that the main characters in each story are all tenants of the same apartment building. Occasionally the stories overlap into one another and I distinctly remember the description of the old elevator in the complex used by each character. I believe it was a debut novel and a very quick read.

If anyone has any idea of the title and author of this novel I would be greatly appreciative. I lost a large collection of books in a house fire recently and this is one of the only ones that I can't seem to remember off the top of my head.
