Husband has hand-me-down Nook ... how to change the library without ruining mine??

I recently just upgraded from my Nook Simple Touch to a Nook Tablet.  My husband is now going to be using the old one, but now we've got the problem of a whole library on there he most likely won't be interested in reading.

I attempted to archive the books that he didn't want, but quickly realized, since my libary transferred onto my Tablet, it archives the book everywhere ... not just on his Simple Touch.  Is there a way to work around this?  There are several books he wants to keep, but most he doesn't, so how to I remove them from HIS nook, without removing them from MINE?

You can't, unless he reregisters his Nook as a new account (in which case he won't have any of the books you've bought).

Samsung Garnet Red Galaxy Tab2 (7.0"): Android 4.1.1 rooted
Acer Iconia A500 (two): Android 4.0.3 rooted;; Nook Color: B&N 1.4.3 rooted
Nook Touch (two): B&N 1.2.1 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G (two): B&N 1.7.0 rooted.
Customer loyalty is earned, not commanded or deserved, and easily lost.
Nothing is foolproof, because fools are so ingenious. Same for rooters.

In this case he won't have direct B&N library access to any of your books, but you can still share some of them with your husband by sideloading them onto his Nook and entering your name and credit card number to unlock them. (This only has to be done once, not for each book.)

You could just create a couple of shelves for his books, unless there are privacy issues.

Since he only wants to pull a few books out of your existing collection, and assuming you don't want the two accounts or purchases linked in the future, Sun_Cat's solution should be the cleanest. You may find it easiest to use the NOOK reader app for your desktop to download your books, then selectively sideload those to his device. On his device, open one of the sideloaded titles and enter your name and credit card number. Be sure to use the name on the card, not your account!

(I've not tried this myself with the B&N reader, but it works fine with others.)

Anybody know if you can have two separate B&N accounts using the same credit card? If so, a simple sideload might be all you need.

Actually, this is what you do. Archive all of the books. Then on your device, unarchive what you want. On his device, the books will be listed in his library, but they will have download tags. As long as he does not touch those books, they will not download and they will not actually be on his device. Obviously, he can download whichever books he does want. My daughter and I share an account and this does work. The one caveat is my daughter and I both have NCs. I do not know if this will work with a simple touch. This also works with apps. Using shelves to organize books and apps is helpful because you can exclude the ones you do not want to download. For example, on the library tab, he will see all of the download tags. If he puts what he actually downloads on shelves, he will not have to see the download tagged books. The thing is, though, if you share an item and one of you archives it, it archives it for both of you. If the other still wants it, they will have to download it again. Another thing about the 1.4 NC/NT build. If you archive an item on a shelf, a place holder for it stays on the shelf.
That's just my opinion, you can take it for what it's worth, or just leave it alone.

While this method works, the books will still be showing, even if he doesn't download them.  If understand the OP, her husband only wants to see his books.

In their situation, the best way, if you are not going to share the majority of the books, as previously pointed out, is to have two accounts.  There is no issue with more than one account using the same card, the differentiator is the account name (email address).  Then, the books they want to share can be sideloaded to one Nook or the other.  See this link, written by Doug, on how to share books. It works fine, I use it to share books with mom.

My parents use this method also.  It's a good method for going forward if he (the OP's husband) likes the nook and starts buying/downloading his own books.  Two people can accumulate a lot of books fairly quickly, and that can be a lot to sift through if your tastes aren't the same.

A note on the archive/unarchive method - each new book will automatically download to both devices, so this will get a bit tricky if the OP's husband syncs with the network.
