Julie, The Average Nook Owner....

The entire concept of "female apps" is offensive to me.  I'm a woman.  I have a Rezound (which of course was directly marketed to men) and a rooted Incredible and I'm pretty happy with the offerings in the Android Market.  Those facts don't make me any less a female than Julie.

IMO apps for children are NOT apps for women.  Just sayin'.  The idea that only mothers buy apps for their kids to use and that fathers don't is offensive to fathers.

roustabout: Agreed, kids apps and education apps I understand the rationale behind - BN collects sales data and knows some things about their customers.

It's when BN corporate defines the universe of apps that appeal to grown women that I got flinchy. 

Exactly. This is where they started sounding patronizing and clueless to me - especially since I do fit the age, gender, and parenthood status parameters that define poor, scared, little empty-headed "Julie". (In other words, I am female; I'm in "her" age range; and I do have kids.) Not all women under 45 with kids are scared of technology. In fact, given the popularity of smart phones and the fact that most of those women probably hold down jobs in the workforce outside the home, I'd say that most of them don't fit that profile - despite the fact that B&N would say they do based on the parameters they set.

Truly.  I suppose I fit in Julie's demographic.  I'm 39, have two children, I live 5 minutes away from one B&N store and within 20 minutes of three others.  In addition, I made the decision to stay home with my children.

But my husband has more apps fr the kids on his iPad and phone, both of which he uses for work, than I do on my NC, iPad, or phone.  Heh.  My devices are for ME.  He should be ashamed of himself.

And I hope this BN exec realizes that this is exactly the reason why I no longer go into their stores as they have devolved into a sort of Chucky Cheese with bookshelves.

Huh?  I've been subscribing to both Analog and Asimov's on my Nook for almost two years.  They just show up every month with no problem.

Wow. She doesn't know me at all. I am 50, can work apps just fine thak you, and I live 2 HOURSfrom my closest BN.
