Re: Just trying to get the scoop on Nook book prices . . .

I don't see any of the big six going into bookselling ebooks. It involves investment and a lot of tech to set it up. They are having enough problems because the industry has changed. Amazon is going to get too cute one of these days and lose business.

The Tor division of Macmillian is opening their ebookstore next month, selling all four of Tor's imprints, direct to consumers and without DRM.

How do you get those Kobo coupons?  I'm thinking about buying a cheap android tablet (since the NC's charger is a piece of crap and I don't intend on purchasing a new charger when my warranty expires) that has Kobo preinstalled.

Go to the Books on the Knob blog. She has the most up to date list of Kobo coupons. She has them listed on the right hand side, just scroll down. I also get rather a lot of Kobo emails. I'm not sure how I signed up for them, they just started coming after Borders went out of business and my Borders library transferred over to Kobo (ha! my Borders "library" actually only consisted of 3 free ebooks). Kobo must have a sign up for the mailing list somewhere on the site.

Books at Kobo in general seem more expensive than B&N but the coupons take the prices quite a bit lower. I can almost always find at least a 40-50% off coupon. I buy all my non-agency books at Kobo.

I simply want to thank everyone who took the time to respond.  As you may have guessed, I know that I need to educate myself RE:  purchasing options for my Nook reading.  Foolishly, I thought that I was limited to the BN site.  And, I have already learned (from you) that ebook prices are a lot more complicated than the average consumer might expect.

Thanks again!
