This is kinda cool. I wish there was a smartphone available with this type of display.

There's a rumor that the new NOOK Simple Touch will have the same feature.

Wouldn't mind an option to turn on a back light. Would be nice for reading when I wake up at 1am and don't want to disturb the spouse.. The little nook light I bought seems a wee bit to little, so I am always moving it for a dark corner as I read the page..
But, if the back lignting drains the battery faster, I don't see the point of it, when in daylight, or have a house lamp turned on, and there is no need for it.. I like the sceen as is most the time.

I would hope that you'd be able to turn this off when it's not needed. One of the primary benefits of a device with an eInk screen is its battery life.

With the announcement of the new NST, I was not surprised to hear that Amazon also has their own offering. So this just leaves Kobo and Sony to update their readers as well.
I just bought an NST about 2 weeks ago. Now I am kind of wishing I had held off on that purchase. Oh well.

What do you mean, "HAS" ???
This looks suspiciously like the rumor that Amazon was going to have an equivalent to the Nook Color "soon", and it took them a year.
Acer Iconia A500 (two): Android 4.0.3 rooted;; Nook Color: B&N 1.4.3 rooted
Nook Touch (two): B&N 1.2.1 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G (two): B&N 1.7.0 rooted.
Customer loyalty is earned, not commanded or deserved, and easily lost.
Nothing is foolproof, because fools are so ingenious. Same for rooters.
