Well, a number of us have found such to be true of these:
The subject matter can be tough, so not for anyone looking for an all positive story. But, many, many interesting characters and lots of parallel story lines. The last one may feel a bit repetitive if one has read the first two, but definitely read in order.

If your looking for a quick, funny mystery go for The Pennsylvania Dutch Mysteries with Recipes by Tamar Myers. Or if you want a horror go for Pet Semetery by Stephen King. The Mortal Instruments is a good series too by Cassandra Clare.

I've been hooked by Anne Bishop and have subsequently ensnared not only my close friends, but my family as well. As you can imagine we all have very different tastes in books, yet none of us could put her books down once we started them. One of my friends actually spent most of her free time in a foreign country reading The Black Jewels Trilogy and had to have the book physically removed from her to get her attention off of the story, if only for a split second.
I highly recommend The Black Jewels Trilogy and the supporting stories that go along with it as well as her Tir Alainn series.
The Black Jewels is based in three different realms and is the story of the efforts of one girl, Jaenelle, to save all three realms from destruction caused by the greed of one very powerful woman. Intertwined with this plot is romance, magic, and intrigue. The description on this website is fabulous! Just read the first chapter and then try to put it down!
This is the first of the Tir Alainn series:
The Pillars of the World (Tir Alainn Series #1)

I can definitely add my "Amen!" to this recommendation. I read all three back to back and couldn't put them down. They were terrific.
