I need help with some suggestions for books to read for a book club in October. I'm looking for something that is not really long (less than 250 pages) and something fitting for around Halloween. Any suggestions?

Well, I'll have to clarify that I haven't read any of these myself. In fact, I don't think I've read anything Halloweenish. But here's a few that might have some goblins in them and maybe someone else will have some feedback on them.
First, Christopher Moore has four with monsters/goblins:
The next I've seen listed on several of these boards:
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
There's also the Sookie Stackhouse series:
Dead until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse / Southern Vampire Series #1) (True Blood)
And finally a classic:
Also, maybe something from Stephen King. He has a good selection of scary stuff. Hope this helps. Sorry I can't vouch for them myself. I don't read about monsters, etc as I tend to have too many vivid dreams later! ;o)

Over the years, come October, my book club has chosen or considered books like Frankenstein or Dracula or one of Anne Rice's Vampire Series or Edgar Allan Poe or Truman Capote's In Cold Blood or even:
Mammoth Book of Ghost Stories (Richard Dalby, ed.) (I see other Mammoth books on other Halloween suitable topics -- these exceed your 250 page guideline, but just select the stories of interest to discuss. Many of these books are relatively inexpensive.)
Besides Stephen King, you might also consider William Trevor or Shirley Jackson. New Jersey has several books on local supernatural lore. Vampires, ghosts, evil, supernatural, bats, black cats, ... are all good topics and you can probably add those likely to most appeal to your group.
I think October is a fun, albeit challenging, month in which to choose a Halloween-related reading selection. The first years I rather resisted, and we don't every year, but I have gotten to look forward to the years we do.

Fond of Books -- if you would, let us know what your book club selects or, at least, what they considered as candidates of interest.
Mostly just curious, but also looking for ideas for my own club next year.
