John Hersey, acclaimed author of Hiroshima, dies in Key West, Florida. Hersey was at onetime Sinclair Lewis' personal secretary.

I blame The Simpsons for my inability to think of Walt Whitman under any circumstance without immediately thinking of Homer Simpson rhythmically kicking his headstone as hard as possible and screaming, "Damn you, Walt Whitman!
