Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Passeport Gastronomique Menu Translators

I've recently published my Passeport Gastronomique series of menu translators for English-speaking travelers on the Barnes and Noble webstore. They provide clear, English descriptions of hundreds of menu items likely to be found when traveling abroad.

These EBooks can operate on Nook, Kindle, iPad, iPodTouch, iPhone, Blackberry, Android and many, many other mobile devices and eBook readers.

Adventurous eaters will be pleased to find lots of adventurous foods described...from abat (organ meat) to limaces (land snails), from angulas (baby eels) to zarajos (fried lamb's intestines). The less adventurous will be happy to be able to avoid ordering them. Everyone will learn that in Spain the zanahoria is the common carrot and mela is an apple. An ostriche in Italy is not what you might think but really an oyster.

In addition to the hundreds of menu item translations, each book also includes a short guide to phrases useful when dining out, that may include: How to order; How to ask for the check; How to complain that your food is not as ordered...too rare, too done, not hot, not cold. A pronunciation guide is also included.

Organized alphabetically, each menu item is listed in its native language in bold, followed by a short, English translation in a light, italic face for easy reading. These are a few listings from the French Passeport Gastronomique:

albert a sauce of egg yolk, cream, horseradish, shallots and mustard
albuféra béchamel sauce with sweet peppers. Made with chicken stock instead of milk.
alcool alcohol
algues seaweed
ali baba spongecake soaked in rum
aligot garlic mashed potatoes with cheese
alimentation food, food store
allumettes puff pastry, or potatoes cut to the thickness of match sticks and fried
alose shad
alouette lark
alouette sans tete rolled veal slice stuffed with garlic and minced meat
aloyau sirloin

They can be found here:

Re: Under Witch Moon -- Urban Fantasy

Under Witch Moon  is now out for Nook!

Adriel should have known that with a werewolf, it never stopped with just one body. She would have gone to the police after witnessing Dolores' death, but she wasn't certain the killer she saw was responsible for the other murders. Besides, the police didn't believe in werewolves, and they weren't going to believe she was a witch either so what could she tell them?

She kept her eyes and ears open while she tried to help her latest client escape the clutches of a voodoo witch, but things went from bad to worse when more bodies turned up. She was greatly relieved when she met White Feather, an undercover cop. Unfortunately, he wasn't convinced she was innocent of all wrong-doing.

It was going to take every spell she knew and a few she hadn't tried to solve the murders and stay alive.

B&N also has it on sale for a dollar off (I have no idea how long the sale will last.)

Re: Read My Book!

These are not books that I've written, ebut I thought it warranted mentioning.  The books are Always and Nature of the Beast  by Jodi Langston.  I've read Always and thoroughly enjoyed it and have Nature of the Beast marked as a "Must Read".

Another author that I've recently discovered is Elizabeth Reyes and she's written "Forever Mine".  Both authors are excellent reads...

The Kinshield Legacy

[ Edited ]

My epic fantasy novel, The Kinshield Legacy, was first published in hardcover in 2005 by a small press. This summer, they reverted rights back to me, and so I've made it available in various eBook formats for $2.99. The Kinshield Legacy is also available in paperback (and B&N has the best price). On his blog, Piers Anthony called it "a rousing hard-hitting fantasy adventure."

The product page's description is annoyingly short. Here's the full blurb:

A mysterious stone tablet with five magical gems has sat abandoned in a cave for two hundred years. The kingdom is in ruins, with only warrant knights to keep the peace. But then, the gems in the tablet, one by one, disappear.

Warrant knight Gavin Kinshield is a man of many secrets. He's the one deciphering the runes in the tablet. Unless he can find a suitable replacement, he'll be Thendylath's next king. All he really wants is the letter written by his ancestor Ronor Kinshield, champion to King Arek, confessing the truth of how the king perished.

Daia Saberheart, warrior of the Viragon Sisterhood, wants to find the future king and help him claim his rightful place.

Blacksmith Risan Stronghammer wants to reward him with a powerful weapon.

And the sorcerer Brodas Ravenkind wants to capture him, steal his secret and claim the throne for himself.

But when Gavin finally tracks down Ronor's letter, he gets more than he's bargained for, for the truth of King Arek's demise is far darker than he ever imagined.

It hasn't gotten much traction yet here at B&N, but it's received 10/12 5-star reviews at Amazon (and the other 2/12 are 4-stars).

"The Kinshield Legacy is a rousing good fantasy tale, with nice characterization and some ferocious action. These days I read primarily for business rather than pleasure, but I found myself eager to return to this novel."
~ Piers Anthony, best-selling author of the Xanth novels

"From the very first page, The Kinshield Legacy grabs you by the throat and propels you into a world of magic, sorcery, jeweled-eyed gargoyles and a sisterhood of female warriors. A world where beyonders savage unsuspecting travelers; where a dark, yet charismatic, wizard covets the king's throne for his own and will let no one get in his way-including the rightful ruler. He who claims the King's Bloodstone shall reign as king. Enter Gavin Kinshield, warrant knight and rune solver, a man haunted by his past, and a hero like no other. A rousing debut from K. C. May, an author worth watching."
~ Carol Davis Luce, author of Night Passage

I hope you'll download the sample and give it a try!

Happy reading,

KC

Gold Stars by Samuel L. Lytle

What is your Gold Star?

A college student, Minister and column writer each feel motivated to change the world for different reasons in different ways. Individually they have done many great things already, but when they simultaneously cross paths, they find that together they can accomplish exponentially more good. Through unique yet deliberate events, they start a local Reality TV Program, the likes of which are unprecedented. Creating false scenarios of despair, this team provides situations where only those who 'move the obstacle out of the path' are rewarded with cash; catching the entire process on hidden cameras. The shocking result is that not only do the ‘right’ people receive the rewards, but as nearly everybody starts watching the show, the entire town changes almost overnight with the citizens practically falling over themselves to help each other. As this altruistic transformation unfolds, the characters wonder: Are these people helping to serve... or are they just helping to greedily receive the reward?

As the controversy climaxes and the Reality TV show is forced to end prematurely, the town collectively holds their breath to see, will the moral revolution remain- or will people just forget and return to their old ways? Through this unconventional adventure of service, romance, mystery and betrayal, Gold Stars entertains while flirting with the answer to 'Why do we do good things?'

Gold Stars is about 92,000 words or about 320 PPE (Printed Page Equivalent)

The Usurper by Cliff Ball

[ Edited ]

The Usurper  paperback for $8.99

Usurper  ebook for $2.99

Has 4 star reviews on Amazon, been featured on Kindleboards Book of the Day, Bargain eBooks, Spalding's Racket Indie Blog, Kindle Author Blog, Frugal eReader, and mentioned alongside other Indie authors on JA Konrath's blog.  If you need something to read, or a gift for Christmas, then please check this out.

Summary:

Ever wonder what would happen if our worst fears were realized and we elected someone who was willing to destroy the USA, even if he was destroyed himself? The Usurper is that novel. It is a fictional account of what would happen if the Soviet Union and KGB were given the chance to take down the United States from within. They use the American political system, education system, terrorism, and commit environmental disasters to achieve these goals.

The Soviet Union and the KGB refuse to let the purging of communists in the United States as awhole by Senator Joe McCarthy, and the House Un-American Activities Committee, deter them. Soviet Premier Khrushchev authorizes the KGB to embark on an ambitious, decades long plan to destroy the United States from within through the corruption of American politicians, the American education system, terrorism, and environmental disasters. Gary Jackson, the main character, is the fulfillment of the KGB plan to destroy the United States from within. They raise him from birth to hate everything about the United States, indoctrinate him, and introduce him to terrorists across the world, where the KGB dictates all terrorist attacks. When Gary is a teenager, he is sent to the United States to assimilate and begin his mission. Nothing will deter his goals of completely and utterly destroying the United States.

When the Soviet Union dissolves, he is given a choice, and he decides to continue with the mission. A terrorist organization ends up filling in the gap left by the absent KGB, and they, together with Gary, conspire to destroy everyone in the United States who doesn't agree with them.

Please check out my other two novels on Nook also, Out of Time  is going for $.99, and Shattered Earth  is only in e-book form for $2.99.

Thanks!

Cliff Ball

Decisions by R. Doug Wicker

[ Edited ]

I'll let Publishers Weekly do my description for me:

An Agatha Christie inspired confection stays true to its roots, with enough clues and plot twists to keep the reader guessing until the end. Donovan Grant was [spoiler removed] until a post-traumatic stress disorder renders him unfit to continue in the profession. He lands the job as pilot for the exclusive Vai Kai resort in the Fiji Islands where trouble arrives in waves. First Donovan starts having inexplicable blackouts, in which he becomes uncharacteristically violent. Then he ferries in a group that includes actress Kelly LaBrecque and her movie producer ex-husband, Sheldon Larsen. Kelly informs Donovan that every person in their group hates Sheldon's guts. Finally, a hurricane knocks out the lights long enough for the first murder to occur and it looks like Donovan is the guilty party. Kelly, who seems romantically interested in Donovan, jumps to his defense. The novel is airy fun, carried by its two likable and witty central characters.
