Re: Reading in store gone?

@BobBowles:

I don't understand how networking works very well but I can tell you this:

The actual access point name in B&N stores is called "ATTWifi".  When a Nook device connects to this access point, either automatically or manually, it switches to the "B&N Store" connection label.  Both are visable in the WiFi list, but only a Nook can connect to "B&N Store."

Maybe some other tech savvy person can explain what is actually going on behind the scenes (if necessary)  but that is the behavior I have observed.

I don't think the bookseller/BN is lying to you, but there might be something wrong with the access point at THAT store.  If you do not see BN Store listed then that would be indicative of a problem.

Re: Reading in store gone?

Alex,  Thanks for the response.  The store I frequent most often is at 1212 Greenbrier Pkwy, Chesapeake, VA 23320,  but I have had the same problem in other stores when I am traveling.

Re: Reading in store gone?

Haven't tried this in any of my local stores lately (Triangle area NC), but I'll check it out and report back.

Actually, there are two wireless systems in the B&N stores, one with the name of "attwifi" (labeled "AT&T WiFi", and another with the name "attwifibn" (labeled "B&N Store").

Samsung Garnet Red Galaxy Tab2 (7.0"): Android 4.1.1 rooted
Acer Iconia A500 (two): Android 4.0.3 rooted;; Nook Color: B&N 1.4.3 rooted
Nook Touch (two): B&N 1.2.1 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G (two): B&N 1.7.0 rooted.

Re: Two WiFi networks in B&N stores

Nooks in our store connect automatically to the "BN store" network. When in the store you can download and read many books for 1 hour as well as go to the more in store selections on your nook. The "AT&T" network is for customers to connect other wifi compatible devices to. The "nook demo" network is no longer used by our store. It was used to stream videos from HULU on the nook demos.

Same here. My Nook connects automatically to the "B&N Store" network when I turn on wifi in my local store. (It's probably automatic because I once chose it.) I always thought that the other visible public wifi network was supplied by the in-store Starbucks outlet.

On another note, I found it amusing and a bit off-putting that when I displayed the Read in Store list the other day, the first four items were various versions of Fifty Shades of Grey (the trilogy set and each book separately). I suppose that's what "Julie" is reading these days. :cattongue:

They've been topping the bestseller lists for weeks, and apparently were a big Mother's Day hit (though who exactly is buying softcore BDSM for their mothers is beyond me).  I'm sure Julie IS reading them, while drinking her B&N marketplace-ordered wine and letting her kids run wild.

It's all B&N

No such thing.  The in-store coffee shop is owned, staffed, and managed by B&N employees.

They serve StarBucks coffee.

Their plastic mock-ups (costing around $500 each, I'm told) of sandwiches used to be an accurate visual representation of the sandwiches, but that's no longer true.
