What Is Your Favorite.......Whatever?

I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone's favortie whatever is.  This is the place to post a link or picture of your favorite bird, city, tree, president, vacation spot, stuffed animal, toy, game, radio station, restraunt, or whatever else you feel like sharing.  So please post your favorite whatever, it may be someone elses' favorite as well.

What started me on this train of thought was looking at picture of my favorite bird in the world, the common loon.  I'm origionally from Minnesota (the loon is out state bird)  and everytime I look at or hear a loon it makes me miss living there.

Re: What Is Your Favorite.......Pie

A friend of mine brought over a pie her mom made last night and I was as excited as a kid at Christmas.  Sweet potato pie has been my favorite pie since I was 10-12.  It is so superior to pumpkin pie in everyway that I can't even compare the two in my head.

Re: What Is Your Favorite......Everything

[ Edited ]

Ryan,

I think a lot of our "favorite whatevers" remind us of either places, people, or things in our life.  Our growing up periods, where these things impact us the most.  They stay in our memory the longest.

I've thought, thoughout my life, what my favorites of all of these catagories would be.  Even where my favorite place to live would be.

As far as food...I don't have any one favorite.  I like so many things, at different moments.

Horses have always been a favorite of mine, since a little kid....riding the ones out in front of the markets, or riding the real ones..I didn't have pets growing up.  But I admire all of wild life.

One thing that sticks in my mind right now is, place.  I woke up this morning thinking of this subject.  Sense of Place...I've discussed this with several authors over the last few years.  I've gotten a feel for the words I've written, as well as they, themselves, have written.

One of the blog topics this week was on writing as it pertains to familiar places.  Growing up in So. Calif., this topic was constently on my mind.  I don't know why that was, other than I lived in an area where I could see all around me just how beautiful it was, this place in which I lived.  I still live in So. Calif., but in a totally different climate zone, from where I grew up.  But still close enough to go to any of these places, within any given day.

I loved the mountains, which I saw every day.  They're beautiful all year long, but in the winter, they have a clear, crisp look, but cold, as well.  I love the smell of pine.

I loved the ocean, which was within minutes of where I lived.  I love the warmth of the sand; the salty smell of the water;  the sounds of the waves;  the vastness of the horizon, and the sunsets that are breathtakingly beautiful.

I loved the desert, which has it's own particular draw and appeal...the smell of the sage, after a summer rain storm....the wild flowers that are everywhere in the spring.

One of my favorite places in Calif. is, Yosemite.  It's grand, with a valley floor that cuts through the mountans....and a river does run through it.....waterfalls that thunder down from these high tops of these shear cliffs; When riding a horse on the valley floor, and up the mountain, I thought I was in heaven.

I think the sensual things that these places can give me, are my favorites.  I not only see them, I smell them, and I taste them.  And the funny thing for me is, I don't have to be there to feel them, and enjoy them.

Kathy

Re: What Is Your Favorite

[ Edited ]

Man, this is a hard question! I have so many favorites. My Family and my religion would be number one, of course!

As far as favorite food I would have to say Fruit  and vegetables! But, if I had to pick one from each category I would say Fresh Strawberries and Green Beans!

Lets see, my favorite sport would have to be Swimming, Hands down!

My favorite place to relax, enjoy a good book, and family would have to be the Beach. I love the Sun, the sand, the smell, and the sound of the waves as they come crashing in one by one. Most special of all is the noise of children, father, and mother alike:smileyhappy:.

My favorite hobby is any form of art, painting, drawing, sketching, crafts with kids, enjoying other artists work, photography and any thing of the sort. (besides reading, writing, words, and such, of course)!

Favorite animal, hummm.... That's a hard one, as a house pet I would have to say dogs. As a kid, though - I would've said Snakes now, however, I'm not so sure, but they do still hold a special place in that brave kids heart. But, my all time favorite animal that I would love to have a chance to own or even ride would have to be a horse, so beautiful! No, I've never ridden a horse before, a donkey yes, but a horse no:smileysad:. I hope to be able to own or at least ride one in the near future, we will see.

Heh, I love Lions as well, however, I hope to never meet one up close like this horse did, and don't worry, I think, he's just going for a ride!

P.S. I could probably go on for a little while longer, but I think I'll stop myself before I get to carried away... I told you it was a hard question:smileywink:!

P.S.S. If you like sweet potato pie you would love my moms famous Sweet potato casserole, so good! I might could get the recipe from her if you like?

Re: What Is Your Favorite.....SuperHero

I was talking to my son Aidan tonight on the phone before bed, he is with my gradparents for the summer, and he told me he just watched our favorite SuperHero movie.  So it reminded me of my all time favorite superhero.  Dr. Strange, The Sorceror Supreme.

Man, I don't really have a favorite superhero??? I kind of gravitate towards them all!

But, since I'm a girl my favorites would have to be Wonder Woman and the gang!

Re: What Is Your Favorite.....Sandwich

I had probably one of the utmost joys in life to eat today for lunch.  I first had a muffaletta sandwhich years and years ago on my first trip to New Orleans and I fell in love with them.  The version I love is ham, salami, mortadella, provolone, mozzarella and of course the best olive salad/mix or whatever else you want to call it.  I found a really good recepie for the olive mix on line a while back and now I make these sandwhiches a few times a month.  The bread is important as well it needs to be (for me anyway) a good thick round loaf of hearty Italian bread.

Ingredients: (for olive mix)
  • 3/4 cup pimento-stuffed olives
  • 1/4 cup pitted Kalamata olives
  • 1/4 cup giardiniera (Italian pickled vegetables)
  • 2 lg. pepperoncini
  • 3 - 4 pickled onions
  • 2 Tbsp. capers
  • 1 md. clove garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • A couple of grinds of blackpepper
  • 2 tsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
Preparation:

1. Drain all ingredients.

2. Place all ingredients in a food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped.

3. Refrigerate overnight.

Isn't it though! The lion reminds me of Narnia for some reason and the horse seems to be thinking "Oh, man, please get this scary Lion off me before he decides he's hungry!" :smileyvery-happy:. Makes you wish you could've seen this show, eh?
