Well, that is rather funny. But, I think her outrage is misplaced. As others on various websites have pointed out, it's probably more likely an error introduced by the "publisher". Things like this are probably why Amazon is publicizing it won't take on public domain works anymore.

This reads more like an April Fool post than anything real. Does anyone here have the Nook edition of War and Peace to check it out?
I was especially amused by the commenter who was outraged over the publisher's changing "the copyrighted word."

There are a few dozen versions, counting anthologies. at least three of which are 99 cents.

While the blog tries to place the blame at B&N's feet, it's not a B&N Classics version (published by B&N) that they are talking about. (From what I can tell, B&N offers other Tolstoy titles in that line, but not W&P.) It's one of the numerous quick and cheap PD versions posted by someone trying to make a few cents. And obviously doing a bad "find & replace" during their formatting to remove anything they must have stuck in there for the Kindle version.
Funny, yes. A B&N "conspiracy," no.

Which means not only did some idiot upload his own copy to try to get 99 cents from the occasional ignorant mark, but what he uploaded had been originally downloaded from Amazon. LOL
