H.C. Huston?

[ Edited ]
I snagged an old mystery paper back called WITH MURDER FOR SOME by H.C. HUSTON. Has anyone ever heard of this author?
I couldn't find any info on him in Wiki nor could find anything very useful by googling.

I am only halfway through this book but it reads like a great Hardcase Crime book. 1st person narrative...dames and guns.

The publisher is A Perma Star and describes the book as a pistol-packing pin-up (what a great description!).

Its copy righted for 1953.

Mine is a 1954 addition (1st printing @1954) by special arrangement from The Macmillan Company.

Would love to know if anyone is familiar with the author!

Re: H.C. Huston?

There is an author named "HC Huston" who published novels called THE CASUAL MURDERER and THE BLIND SAW MURDER -- but whether that was the same writer as the author of WITH MURDER FOR SOME, I can't say.

It's always fun to discover obscure or unfamiliar writers, though. Thanks for the tip about this one.

Re: H.C. Huston?

Charles-
I think it is the same author: Howard Chauncey Huston. I looked up the titles you mentioned and found that they were published by Macmillan Company, who was involved with the printing of my book.

They were also published around the same time as WITH MURDER FOR SOME.

Have you read the books you've mentioned? How were they?

I am serious in saying that this book is REALLY good. I am almost finished with it...but Have been taking my time as the pages left begin to wear thin. I don't want it to end!

With Murder for Some is available here:
http://www.alibris.com/booksearch?qwork=7257058&matches=18&author=H.C.+HUSTON&browse=2&title=mURDER&...*listing*title

If anyone is interested...its only like $2.00 and WELL worth it. Unless somehow the ending ruins everything I cant see how this book would make a bad buy.

Re: H.C. Huston?

I haven't read them, alas -- but I'm going to be keeping my eye out for copies in '08.
