How are you helping America?
By selling books, that helps American capitalism - jobs at bookstores around the country are relying on sales of my book. And also, because I demanded that my publisher use endangered mahogany clear-cut from Brazilian rain forests, I'm helping to destabilize one of America's growing economic rivals.
lol! OK, now I KNOW you've been giving advice to Republicans! Perfect Washingtonian logic! ![]()

I'm just getting a call from Donna Brazile. Apparently she's taken umbrage to the chapter about her in my book. As a fellow member of the punditocracy, I should probably placate her by taking her to lunch. Getting ready to sign off, but it's been a pleasure, and by all means an honor to accept this Noble Prize from B&N. As long as I don't have to go to one of those Scandanavian countries to accept it. thanks to all who participated!!

I want to be a little more serious and go back to Palin's book and the index thing, if you don't mind.
Consider:
Palin's book:
1. Has no index, nor end notes.
2. She claims she's a "real American," when there really isn't any standard for that.
Your book:
1. Has an index and end notes.
2. You claim you're a real person and that you actually exist, which has a simple fog-a-mirror standard.
Given the above, that you ground your book in real events and make a strong case for being alive, why are we debating whether you exist? Isn't there a more compelling argument here that Sarah Palin doesn't exist?
I was about to log off when I saw this. Excellent point! It's like I say in the book to Steve Krakauer who now writes for Mediaite. He said that unnamed McCain staffers said I never worked for him, but I was willing to go ON THE RECORD to say that I did. Who are readers going to believe?
As for the index, not having one is very pretentious - it assumes the reader has the time or inclination to read your entire book. Also, ask yourself - what kind of books don't have an index?
Fiction.
More importantly, I have it on good authority that non-indexed books don't get catalogued in the Library of Congress - has anyone else heard that?

Not from anyone except you, but I'm sure someone hearing you say it will now quote it as true!
Bye!

Well, I can't help but say that I'm a little disappointed. You don't expect a Republican pundit like Mr. Eisenstadt to make like Nixon in Vietnam and cut-and-run like that (Nixon=RINO), but that's evidently what he did.
I received an email from Dan Mirvish, alleged co-writer of I Am Martin Eisenstadt (with Eitan Gorlin) asking if he could make an officially sanctioned appearance here challenging the existentially dubious Martin Eisenstadt.
Well, no sooner had I proposed running a message-board policy debate over, "Resolved: Martin Eisenstadt exists," than Mr. Eisenstadt bailed out, leaving a puff of pundit smokescreen behind him.
However, in the interest of fairness and because we feel that Mr. Eisenstadt's departure has left people wanting more, we will be giving Mr. Mirvish equal time to state his case.
Please return next Tuesday, November 24, at 2:00pm EST to speak with Mr. Mirvish.
He'll be able to answer questions about creating political "experts," media complicity in exploitation and promotion of convenient untruths, his reception by the punditocracy, the process of writing political satire and maintaining a hoax. Though, obviously, he might enjoy tackling some topics over others, here is your chance to ask the sober political/media questions you might have felt went unanswered here.
