On page 267, Shirin comments that her father resembles Rembrandt's Old Jew Seated. It is ironic that it is one whose reproduction Isaac kept above his desk. Here is a link to a picture of the painting.

Thanks for providing the link to that picture - that's so sad, isn't it?
I wish I'd been here for this discussion when it was 'happening', as I just love to post thoughts as I'm reading through chapters.
This book moved well from beginning to end - didn't take long for the tension of the story to get started and it held right through.
I think every reader breathed a big sigh of relief when the little family finally got moving out of there.
I'm not a war lover, but when I read of violence like this, I just wanna' go out and shoot somebody!
