So now we have met Miriam's mom, Miss Josie, what are your first impressions?
I really could relate more to her than to Miriam. She seems more down to earth, more grounded in herself and when Miriam describes how she used to sit with her mom as a kid and listen to all the wonderful stories, I thought, how did you get to be this way Miriam? Is it really all just the marriage to the wrong guy and trying to fit in there? In these early chapters I loved a couple of things Miss Josie said, one was when she was talking to Miriam on the first visit we get in on, and she says to her...I love you, your my only child, trust me your a prig. ROFL!! you tell her Josie hehe. And the answering machine messages! How funny are those! Even when she changes it on page 42 to be more polite, its hysterical! I get almost a Katherine Hepburn, On Golden Pond, feeling from Josie. I remember when that movie came out, I was an adult but I still thought, I want to be like her when i get old lol. I still think that rofl, and I would love to have someone to love when I am old just like she had in that movie. Thats Ms Josie to me. Earthy, funny but real and sincere too. And Miriam does love her mom, even if now she thinks her mom is a bit out there, shes not, Miriam is just a prig. LOL

I simply love Miss Josie! But viv, she was the same way Miriam was, the society's secretary and all that too when Miriam's father was living. She only realized what she had left behind and wanted again, the life where the mango sunsets are.

I liked Miss Josie too. She is so down to earth. But look where she is living; she has the life and she is doing everything an islander would do; making nets, growing organic veggies. She has the life and I'm envious!
My life is a reading list.

When I am an old dame, I am gonna pack it in. move to Sullivans Island and be Miss Josie - minus the chickens. Chickens are nasty things. No lie. I'm doing it!

That is such a great idea! I will definitely need to at least do that for our cold northern winters. My bones can't take it now. I feel that I was always meant for the beach anyway. And chickens can be really nasty. We had mean ones as kids and they would chase us around until my parents put a permanent stop to that. We did have baby chicks as pets though and they were so cute and pretty smart as well.
