Discussion Topic: The Immortality Issue

Now that Bella has seen Jacob age so drastically and has grown up a little herself, how might her view of immortality change? Does Edward’s immortality mean that he is incapable of growing and changing emotionally the way Jacob and Bella have, or does it just mean he can’t show physical signs of age?

I think it's the opposite. He is able to show more of an emotional change because he has, after all, been around longer.

I think it's clear that the vampires still change emotionally and mentally. Look at how Jasper, and for that matter the rest of Edward's clan, is able to overcome the thirst for human blood. If that doesn't show growth I'm not sure what does!

Just because Edward can't age physically don't mean he hasn't been growing emotionally. Just look at his behavior in the books. He always puts Bella before himself. How many 17 year olds do that? He's had a long time to mature and emotionally grow. I do have to disagree with you on one thing. I don't think that Jacob has grown emotionally, or at least not a lot. We all know he grew physically but he still acts like a kid. He thinks he should get what he wants. He wants Bella, so in Eclipse he keeps trying to get her. Even tricks her into really kissing him by saying he will kill himself. And when he don't get her, he runs off. If you as me that's not emotionally mature.

I agree..Its kind of like the Cullens.

They lived so long, they grow, not physically, but inside - emotionally.
