Re: Welcomes and Introductions

Hi Everyone!
My name is Barb and I live in Baltimore, Maryland.  I work full-time, have two very excitable, large, rescued pups and an awesome husband. This will be my second First Look book. The first one (The Sister) was something I may not have picked up or enjoyed as much if it hadn't been for all the great discussions here. It is really cool to be able to chat directly to the author... it truly does give you more insight!
I'm excited about getting started on Songs for the Missing.

Re: Welcomes and Introductions

HURRAY! My message came! Songs for the Missing sounds like a great read. Loved The Sister! It was my first ARC and the discussions were amazing! Hoping that once school is out I will have more time to participate in the actual discussion. By the time I got through reading all the posts on The Sister I always felt a bit inadequate posting my own opinion. Absolutely loved reading everyone else had to say. Looking forward to using The Sister for our book club at school.

Re: Welcomes and Introductions

Hi Everyone,

This is booser and I'm dropping in from beautiful San Diego. This is my first book club and I'm really excited about it. I'm trying to expand my library and learn more new authors.

I was asked a question recently on a job interview as to who my favorite author was and I didn't have an answer.  It was just one of those insight questions, you know one that makes your wheels start turning. So now I am on a mission, a mission to find my favorite book and my favorite author!I hope that being in this club that I can get some perspective from other readers and renew my love for reading and reflecting on the emotions of the characters.

I don't know many people from PA, but my best friend was a nanny in West Chester, PA for about 2 years. Even though I live in Utah, I feel as if I have a connection to West Chester through my best friend. I have already enjoyed this book club, it has been so much fun hearing about people from all over. I don't get out much, and this seems to be my way of connecting with other people without needing to pack up the kids just for an hour lunch!

Re: Welcomes and Introductions

Yes, I love my job - its a challenge to get the best possible variety of books on the budget we have - but I am so grateful that we have the opportunity!

I love walking into a library - it always feels to me as though I have walked into a magical place with all these possibilities - I can take any book off a shelf and actually go home with it and treasure it....read it...and enjoy it....for FREE....

what a gift.

I am wondering how long it would take to get the notification that I have been chosen for the program? Probably this question is asked often - but I could not really find an answer online. Thanks.

Hi Booser,  and welcome neighbor!

You've come to the right place to get the wheels turning and the juices flowing.  Lots of insightful questions will be raised, here.  For every question, there's a million answers.  You might want to check out the rest of the clubs on B & N, in the meantime.   This discussion won't start until June.  All different genres, and lots of different moderators and participants.  Lap up all the good discussions about books, books, and more books.  You should be thoroughly confused about who is your favorite author, and book.... by the years end! HA!  I think we all take a little something away from each of these books, authors, and participants - and apply it to ourselves.

Happy insightful reading!
Kathy S.

Re: Welcomes and Introductions

I had to smile when I read your post. I hate it when they ask that question because I have so many favorites. LOL
I'm also a little afraid to tell them I adore Stephen King as they might think I'm a horror freak or something when, in fact, it's his writing style and his voice that just blow me away.
It's kind of the same thing as saying I think Eminem is extremely talented. He has a phenomenal sense of rhythym. Even if you don't like his style of music, a musical ear can appreciate it.

So when they ask, I pick one of the other more respected favorites. I know...cop out. LOL

Re: Welcomes and Introductions

Good morning.  I just signed up for the first time and I am looking forward to this book.  I am involved in two other book discussions/programs and I really enjoy reading.  We have a book discussion program at the college I work for and it has really expanded my genre list of reading.

I hope that I get into this discussion and look forward to chatting with everyone.

Re: Welcomes and Introductions

Thanks KathryS,

I know I was thinking about checking out the History and reading up on John Adams. I've been watching the series on HBO and it's struck an interest up. But I love a good mystery. Yeap, I can see where this can become confusing. lol:smileyvery-happy:

I know this will be a wonderful opportunity to grow.

Thanks

Re: Welcomes and Introductions

Hi y'all.  I would like to suggest a little hint here that would be helpful to both readers and posters:  When you are replying to someone's specific post, click on the "reply" on that specific post and when you come to the reply screen just hit that little white balloon in the tool box (next to the smilies).  By doing this, you not only let the original poster know you are replying to something he/she said, but also helps eliminate confusion in the readers because they can see to what you are replying.  Does that make sense?  LOL

I just wanted to pass that along to some of the newer posters here who may not know about the "quote" feature.  Happy reading!
