it's cool that people got it the first day of the discussion, though. They can read the first couple chapters and talk about them right away!

Please check your PM, we'll be sure to get a book to you right away.

Well I feel better now that I know I'm not the only one who just got the book today. I am looking forward to reading and discussing this book.

This is my first time with a book club online but I can see from other comments that this is going to be a lot of fun.

Ashen,
Somewhere in the ARE YOU IN thread, is a link to the the first chapter excerpt but also one to the first two chapters. Thats what I read, so I could participate now while waiting for my book. You might try there until you get yours and they really are right on it, trying to get everyone theirs who havent gotten it yet. Hang in there and that post will give you the exact first two chapters being discussed now, no more but at least that and theres a lot of discussion then to keep you busy! lol. hang in there.

Hi everyone!! I am so happy to see so many familiar screen names...I too was part of the first FLBC and am so excited to be back. What a delightful surprise it was to get the ARC in the mail today...I thought I was closed out.

The book discussions

[ Edited ]
Hi Kathy. I am enjoying the book so far and grateful to have it- and especially free. I can't wait for the author to come talk to us- and hear some praise.

I wonder if it is possible to have more advanced threads though- for those of us who like to read a book pretty quick and as a whole more than piece by piece. Maybe part 1, part, 2, part 3, whole book threads. That way people who don't like to really analyze things could discuss the ideas and story and characters and not worry so much about mentioning something not in the first or second chapter.

If not, maybe you could let us know what your planned reading schedule for this book is?

TIA, Bonnie

Hip Hip Hooray!!

Greeting from Southern California, my name is Valerie and I am a single mother of two boys who loves to read. I currently have a 2-3 book a week habit, but am always willing to increase. I received my book yesterday, but refused to start reading it till I finished the book I was currently reading(Beyond Reach by Karin Slaughter), so I finished last night and officially started HaR today. I am trying not to finish the book but, I have no will power so I'm sure after I add my thoughts I will cozy up and start to enjoy what appears to be a great novel. I am so excited, this is my first book club. Thanks for letting me be part of it.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Talea and I'm from a very chilly Kansas. I'm glad to be joining the group! I finally received my ARC late yesterday evening. It came along with the new king sized feather mattress I ordered so I'm set to snuggle in and do some reading!

This really looks like my kind of book and I can't wait to get started. I was only able to read the cover last night. I'm looking forward to it and will be back for the discussion!

Thank you for the ARC and the invitation to be part of the group! :-)

Hi everyone,

Received the book yesterday and have been happily reading ever since. This is my first book club or preview group etc. An avid reader, I read a minimum of 4 books a month in a range of genres. Sadly my three boys do NOT and I mean do NOT enjoy reading! They don't know what they are missing. Happy reading from another avid reader in Southern California! We are supposed to have 7 inches of rain starting tomorrow morning so I can't wait since that is a perfect excuse to put on a fire and curl up with a good book.

Re: Welcome from the Moderator

I can't remember if I posted here or not. I'm a first timer and so far, it's been great if a little hard to slow my reading down, (smile). I'll try to remember that I need to think over each part and not as I usually do, the book as a whole.
Thank you for the welcome.

Re: Welcome from the Moderator

Hi, My name is DeeAnn. I live on a ranch in Wyoming and don't get much contact with real live people. This book club should help with that. I received my book a couple of days ago. I am in the middle of another book so I need to hurry and finish it so I can start this one. I am quite eager to read it as the story sounds quite good.

Re: Welcome from the Moderator

Hi all!

I'm a little late in introducing myself since I haven't had the chance to get on the computer with the kids all home from school this week. I am Lisa B from Minnesota and I was so excited to get the book from the UPS man. It's been hard to resist reading the whole thing, but I'm trying not to do it all at once since I'm one of those people who would actually stay up all night reading and then wonder why I was so crabby the next day! This one is really tough to put down though.
Looking forward to discussing it with all of you!

Hello everyone!! This is Laurie from Ontario! It's January 5th and I still haven't received my book, but hoping to see it in my mailbox on Monday! Can't wait to get reading it. I haven't read the chapter excerpt yet, as I find that much computer reading to be hard on my eyes but I will jump into the discussions as soon as I've caught up! The weather in Ontario is finally getting mild after a very stormy December (supposed to go up to 8C next week ... woo, hoo)!

Re: Welcome from the Moderator

Hi, everyone!

I am Sherilyn, from Colorado, and I'm thrilled to be part of the group! My book came about a week and a half ago. The timing couldn't have been better; I was just finishing another book and starting to root around for something new to read. I didn't realize we were discussing chapter by chapter, so I hesitated to jump in to the conversation until I'd finished it. So. here I am, head full of spoilers, reading the comments on "The Nursery," one of my favorite chapters! I will be careful, though; I just hate it when someone spoils a book for me!

Karen, thanks for moderating; I appreciate your efforts on our behalf.

Here's hoping for bad enough winter weather to keep us in and reading but not bad enough to turn out the lights! Vivian, I'm glad you're back on; I lived through one of Oklahoma's ice storms as a child and remember it vividly to this day (a while later; I'm not doing math today).

Hi Karen,
The House at Riverton was my first ARC and I am very impressed with it. I am excited to have had the opportunity to review a book that has not yet made its debut in the U.S. and look forward to the opportunity to do this again.

Re: Welcome from the Moderator

Karen, I have a question about the use of the book copy after our discussion ends. I have several friends whom I think I would really enjoy this story. Can I lend them this copy? Or should I buy a copy for that purpose? I realize that the publishers do this to get word of mouth advertising before the actual release. I will certainly be recommending this book!

Thanks!

Re: Welcome from the Moderator

Well, I certainly should have come online much sooner!! I was so excited to get the book and jumped right in to reading it. Being a "newbie" to the Book Club, I should have taken it a bit slower and figured out the process. Now I have read it in its entirety and will be ever so careful not to say anything to spoil it for those of you who are staying with the postings and reading along on a timeline! I will say that all of the twists and turns that the story takes as well as many of the references along the way, all tie in beautifully as the story progresses. I love this author!
