Now, I notice that over on the Welcome! board, in response to Lauren Groff's comments, some of you mention you're familiar with the Cooperstown area. Would anyone like to share their impressions of the area with the rest of us?

I have noticed that many others miss the old B&N ME TOO. It was great and I enjoyed the classes I was able to be a part of.
This first look promises to be exciting as well. It will be what we make it as a group so lets jump in and get our feet wet. Will be looking forward to the interaction.

Thanks
Angela,
The *old* B and NU was the previous format (book discussions) used by Barnes and Nobles.com, up until last October. That's when they changed to how your viewing it now. Some of us are from that old *era*. It was more of a structured classroom situation, rather than a book club-open forum.
Hope this answers your question.

I can't believe it! I already got my book! I'm here in the Philippines and I got my book on the afternoon of the 17th (that would be 16th in the US)! I haven't had time to read it yet though becuase UPS caught me when I was just on my way out to go to work. I'm so excited to ready it and discuss the book with you guys!

I got my copy of the book today, as well, and I'm over in Europe, so I guess everyone should have their books soon... right?
I didn't think about it for the past few days, and so it was nice to see that parcel leaning on my door this evening, when I got back from work.
First impression (after a brief first look): I like the cover, I especially like the rough look of the pages (which of course will be lost to all those "normal" readers), and I'm going to start reading it tonight (I'm like 6 hours ahead of New York).
Great to see that there are a few who remember the "old" book clubs, I only managed to take part in one of them, but I also took part in a few classes, and I've met a couple of great people through them!
I think someone mentioned that she/he likes to read new authors to further her/his own writing, and I hope there are a few more people who not only like to read but do write as well. This is also a great opportunity to learn something about the whole business of publishing, I guess.
Right, gotta go, will return, enjoy the read,
Barbara

After reading chapter 1 this morning I couldn't wait to get my book to continue reading the story. I was delightfully surprised when I got home from work and my copy was waiting for me. I'm in Massachusetts.

I got my book today too!
I have started reading and am really liking these beginning chapters!
Since, in her Author's note at the beginning of the book, Laura writes,"...one cannot write about Cooperstown without writing about Fenimore Cooper", and since
I am not familiar at all with the writings of James Fenimore Cooper or the town of Cooperstown, I'm kind of hoping this does not mean I will miss some subtleties in the text of the novel! Guess that's just another mystery that will hopefull resolve along with all the other ones of this novel.
I am very pleased to be part of this group and look forward to many interesting discussions!
Happy reading to all!
