Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Re: Welcomes & Introductions

Hi -- just signed up. Haven't been part of an online group in about 5 years -- too busy! Thought this sounded like a of of fun though, so here I am. I am a 34 yo stepmom to 2, married 10 years, and a voracious reader. A couple of years ago we added floor to ceiling built-in bookshelves to our family room to house all the books. I'm not a library person, I have to own books, it's my biggest vice. Mysteries are my favorite, but I'm always willing to try new books and authors. I look forward to chatting with you all!

Hello! My name is Julie. I'm from New Hampshire, and this is my first on-line book club. How exactly does this work? Is there a specific schedule for chapters? Specific topics each week?
I am really looking forward to this!

Oh yeah, I'm Ebony Angel, (Carolyn) from Missouri. I read everything and when I run out of stuff to read, I'll read the yellow pages.
So far from the excerpt it seems like it's going to be another good one.

EbonyAngel, I'm Lady_Graeye and I live in Missouri too, We'll have to find out where each other lives, who knows we might be close... Nice to meet you!

Well you Missourians, I am right down here in Oklahoma and got a friend up above you in Illinois. Grab a steamboat, well not that they come through Oklahoma, cause they dont lol.

Girl, forget the steamboat!! I think I probably could get on my snowboard, enter-tube or even a piece of cardboard and make it down your way today!!! LOL! We have had everything happen here today weather-wize except a tornado (shut my mouth!) It has snowed, sleeted, rained, hailed, lighteninged and thundered all in one day here today! WEIRD! They say here in Missouri, " If you don't like the weather here, just wait a second...it's bound to change !! LOL ! I was down in Oklahoma about 4 months ago. It was nice down there, had some fun but then I had to come back home!! Anytime you want to come up my way, your more than welcome to... Better pack your bag for every kind of weather possible !!! Hi Julie,
I too live in NH - Seacoast area.
I was wondering if we could restart the conversation about what people are reading as they wait for the new ARC.
I am currently reading Broken for You by Stephanie Kallos for my book group. I have recently finished The Street of a Thousand Blossoms by Gail Tsukiyama. A wonderful story by a fabulous author. Have The Commoner by John Burnham Schwartz to look forward to next.
Looking forward to hearing what everyone else is reading!

I am new here and am thrilled to be a part of this book club. I am 28 years old and live in New England with my husband and our frisky black lab doggie. I absolutely love to read, bake and spend time outside with my dog. I am always interested in discussing books with others and one of my favorite questions to ask people is "what are you reading?" My favorite genre is historical fiction and I am currently reading Geraldine Brooks' "A Year of Wonders."

I look forward to reading and discussing "The Sister" with all of you!

Heyy now! Thats an OKLAHOMA saying because Will Rogers said it! :smileywink: If you dont like the weather, just wait a minute, it will change. We have had the same thing here all day too. When I came out from getting groceries today, it was in the 30s raining and windy and just went right through ya trying to load up the car! It was 78 yesterday! and will be 28 in the morning! brrrrrrrr. Hey, you dont have to say what town you are in, and probably shouldnt in the open here lol, but what part of Mo. are you in? I am south of OKC.

Re: Welcomes & Introductions

Just found out about the First Look Book Club and decided to join. My online name is Thryth, and I'm from the greater Seattle area in Washington state. I'm an avid reader, and I especially love Sci-Fi/Fantasy, just about anything relating to vampires, early period (dark age) historical fiction, and mysteries. It's all good. I look forward to being a member of this club and reading what you all have to say.

Re: First Timers in First Look

Another tip: If you read ahead of the schedule, be really, really careful about spoilers. Since nobody has read the book before, it's all terra incognito, and we all want to explore it fresh. Even such an apparently innocuous post as posting a link about something or someplace mentioned later in the book can bring down the wrath of readers who are actually reading per the schedule and do NOT want to know anything about future events or incidents in the book.

Your fellow readers will thank you.
