Oh yeah, I'm Ebony Angel, (Carolyn) from Missouri. I read everything and when I run out of stuff to read, I'll read the yellow pages.
So far from the excerpt it seems like it's going to be another good one.

EbonyAngel, I'm Lady_Graeye and I live in Missouri too, We'll have to find out where each other lives, who knows we might be close... Nice to meet you!

Hey girls,
I live right near St. Louis and there's a Vickie enrolled also that's near St. Louis.
Are we neighbors too?

Re: Welcomes & Introductions

Hello!

My name is Jenny and I love to read! I belong to a "regular" book group and thought perhaps it might be fun to join an online one as well.

I like to read a lot of things but lately I've been reading what I refer to as "mind candy" (a quick, happy sort of read that you just can't put down - for example: Charlaine Harris). It's time to challenge myself and do some deep reading again.

I can't wait to get the book!

Re: Welcomes & Introductions

Hi.

I've always wanted to join a book club. For some reason where I live we don't really have much or they just don't make themselves known. I enjoy reading all kinds of books. Sometimes I am quite surprised by the random books I will pick out to read. I really hope that I enjoy this group. I hope to hear from you soon and maybe even share some of my favorite books with you.

Hi Everyone!

I'm really excited to be a part of another First Look discussion group! I really enjoyed the first one, "The Monsters of Templeton," and am looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say about "The Sister".

I love to read and have an ever growing eclectic collection of books that drives my husband crazy. :-)

Hello

Hello Everyone,

I am Melanie. This is my first time to join an online book club and I am so excited about it. I am ready to get started on "The Sister" and learn all that I can, and meet a few new people while I am at it.

Re: Welcomes & Introductions

Brenda,

That was my experience with the first club as well! We all seemed to have the same thoughts or conclusions and I hated to repeat something that someone else had already stated, usually very elegantly and succinctly!

I hope that I'll be able to participate more this time around.

Re: Welcomes & Introductions

Hi all. This is my first online book club and I am looking forward to it. I belonged to a neighborhood book club for 18 months and loved the discussions and the introductions into different genres than I had read before. I have always been a reader but have not been actively reading for the past couple of years. I have made a goal to read more this year and to find a book club so this will be a great start. Can't wait to get started, but I hope I can keep up with the posts. Any suggestions from you veteran First Look-ers?

First Timers in First Look

I have noticed that there are a lot of first time online book group participants with us this time. Perhaps it would be helpful if those of us we have participated in past discussions offered tips and suggestions to make the experience easier for our new friends.

Here are a couple of ideas to get things started:

1: Consider using post-it notes, a notebook, or some other method of keeping notes on what you read. We will receive our advance review copies a couple of weeks before the book discussion actually begins. Many of us find it difficult to resist reading ahead, so the notes help us not only remember the observations and questions that came to mind as we were reading, they also help us guard against posting something that would be a "SPOILER" to someone who hasn't read as far ahead.

Re: First Timers in First Look

Okay, I'll post another tip for First Timers. :-)

2. Prepare yourself to be overwhelmed---the number of threads and postings in "The Sister" discussion are will explode once the books begin to arrive and the official discussion begins. I suggest that you pace yourself. I find it easier to make sure I have read the assigned sections of the book first--then read postings and comment as I have time.

It is also okay to move on to another discussion thread as you move on to the corresponding sections of the book. You can always go back and read older postings--even after the discussion has concluded.

Maybe, someone else has another method for managing reading the posts and book simultaneously.

Tip #3.............????????

Re: Welcomes & Introductions

Hi everyone! I am Tonya from WA. I am a SAHM of four kidlets from ages 13 to 6. I have an online business which has kept me quite busy. This is my third ARC book. The first two discussions left me pretty much in the dust. I felt a bit out of place but this time I am determined to keep up!

That being said, I saw the tips. I saw someone say something about marking your points. You know I saw on Oprah about those neat highlighters. Those would be great!! Just a thought!

Anyway, I can't wait to get my copy and join in this time!!!

Hi Everyone,
I just signed up for the book club. I hope I'm in time to read The Sister. I too read just about anything that I can find including the books my children bring home from the school library. I'm looking forward to learning from all of you.

Another tip --- #3

Don't feel you have to read every post. Skim, skim, skim, for a topic that interests you.

Re: Welcomes & Introductions

Although I was here for the last one (and also did a review of the first one borrowed from a friend), I was so worried I'd missed this one!

My Re-introduction: Married 26 years, 3 grown children, Masters in Reading Education, avid book collector (Tasses @LibraryThing), Blogger @ http://www.randomwonderer.blogspot.com/ (where I randomly wonder about life, books, music, an empty nest and the serendipitous nature of life).

My best tip for new folks (#4): Using the 'subscribe to' feature is overwhelming. You'll awaken to 47 email notifications. Better to keep a log of which threads you are posting into and check them when you get a chance. And I TOTALLY agree with tip #3: only choose your personal interests ones.

Hi Tonya-

I don't get home in time to watch Oprah---can you elaborate on what you heard on the show about marking your points and "those neat highlighters?"
