The April free eBook from Phoenix Press is Mike Resnick’s Adventures: The Chronicle of Lucifer Jones, Volume I.  Mr. Resnick is also this year’s Guest of Honor at the Worldcon being held in Chicago.

Of all the characters that Mike has created, Lucifer Jones remains his favorite.  Adventures is the first volume of the Chronicles, and is described on the publisher's website as follows:

Being a Stirring Chronicle of Intrigue, Romance, Danger, Hairbreadth Escapes, and Thrilling Triumphs over Fierce Beasts and Fiercer Men in the Mysterious and Exotic Dark Continent, as Recounted by the Daring, Resourceful, Handsome, and Modest Christian Gentleman Who Experienced Them.

There is also a related promotion; on the free download page you will have the opportunity to purchase Volumes II and III of the series for only $1.99 each (the regular price for the each eBook is $4.99).

To get your free eBook, go to PPickings.com; scroll down to the listing for Adventures; click on the link for "FREE EBOOK of the Month"; and then insert the coupon code where indicated.  The coupon code for April is 9991422.

That's a pretty standard pseudo-Victorian title mocking the lengthy hagiographic titles of the era.
