Re: Introduce Yourself!

I'm an avid reader and an indy author. I'll read most anything, from the calssics (many genres, sci-fi included) to spy's and espionage to historical fiction to real-life to fantasy--pretty much anything but harlequinn romance and the like. I enjoy paying attention to the writing styles of the work I read. I've picked up many great cues from my own observations as I read. I'm also an artist and a jack-of-all-trades with only partial schooling beyond HS. I've worked for myself, for the big box-stores, and for the little guy. I've always had a story in my head, and the more I write the more I find I have to write about. I am currently undergoing heavy editing for a sci-fi story set in pre-historic time that involves grey-aliens and neanderthals. My current work is available on B&N. Hazen Wardle, 'The Triumph Detective' series author.

Hi, I'm Moonracer and I'm an addict...whoops wrong place. Just kidding.

Anyways a little about me, I have 2 children who give me little time to read but, when I do manage a few minutes I love a good long book or a compilation edition with several books. I read many different genres not least is Sci-fi/Fantasy.  I also have a decent collection of book sereis that I enjoy.

Favorite authors include, Tolkien, George Martin, Stephen King, Alexandre Dumas among others.

Favorite series include, Wheel of Time, Outlander, Memory, Sorrow, & Thorn, as well as Otherland, & The Dark Tower.

Thats really about it from me.

So huzzah and well met to all of you.

Re: Introduce Yourself!

Hi,

My name is Paul. I'm a retired math professor and long time fan of sci fi and fantasy, books and movies. I have hosted  sci fi/fantasy reader's groups at Barnes and Noble here in Massachusetts and I currently host a sci-fi and fantasy reader's group in Northampton MA at the Forbes library. I have an idea for a sci fi short story which someday I might write and try to publish. Maybe I will go the route John Scalzi tried, put it online to read for free and ask people to send me a dollar if they like it :smileyhappy:

Re: Introduce Yourself!

Hello all!  Long time reader, first time poster - LOL.  Like many here I fell in love with fantasy when I read Tolkien for the first time (The Hobbit when I was ten years old to be specific).  Since then I have dabbled in other genres only to return time and again to the fantasy realms.  My seven year old is following in my footsteps and I am finding a whole new world of young adult fantasy reads.  We are currently working through the Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage and I admit it is enjoyable so far (though quite long-winded).  I am also an indie author and proud of it!  It's good to be here and I will be seeking some new reads for my Nook!

Anyway, hi all!

That's me.  I sort of wander in and out on this forum and the mystery forum.  Sometimes I have more time than others and sometimes I'm reading more than others.

Has anyone read

The Hammer and the Blade    I've been eyeing it, but have never read any of his work.  I know he wrote some star wars stuff (not my thing.)

I'm also looking into Mercedes Lackey fThe Fire Rose (Elemental Masters Series #1)   I've heard it's good and I absolutely adore the cover.  I like cozy fantasy and it looks like it might fit the bill!

Welcome to the forums, Allanah – you definitely came to the right place if you like fantasy. What is your all-time favorite novel or series?

Re: Introduce Yourself!

I'm Laura. I've been reading sci fi and fantasy since i was about 12 or 13. Before that i didn't read much at all. The Diamond Throne by David Eddings was the 1st fantasy book i read. It just sort of clicked. Since then i haven't gone more that 2 or 3 days without a book. If i did i was bored out of my mind. Books are the cause and the cure for my insomnia. I can't sleep if i don't read at least a couple chapters. Its how i wind down at night. My house is quiet now but untill a couple months ago either my brother or my sister has lived with us with their multiple screaming kids. I love my niece and nephews, but the oldest is only 6. He's calmer, but wants to watch REALLY annoying cartoons all day long. So at night i'd read for a while. But the "problem" with any good book is i couldn't read just 1 chapter. So i'd be up all night reading.

Welcome to the forums, Laura – and don't worry, many of us have that "can't-read-just-one-chapter" affliction!   :smileyhappy:
