I am, and I don't care who knows it, in tears.
"The Illustrated Man" was the first science fiction I ever read at about 12 years of age and,
for better or worse, helped to make me whatever I am now and inspired my "wannabe" author status. Not to mention starting a life long love affair with science fiction and the written word in general.
Growing up in the 1960s in a small town in Ohio, I found that Mr. Bradbury wrote exactly what I saw and felt. I did not know Ray Bradbury, but he sure knew me.

Bradbury deserves credit I feel for taking the tradition of science fiction dealing with social and political issues and the human condition to a new level, comparable to anything found in mainsream fiction.

The guy was amazing – he literally singlehandedly changed how people perceive short genre fiction. I love his short story collections: The Golden Apples of the Sun, The Autumn People, One More for the Road, etc. Just timeless, masterfully written classic stories.
