The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss

I just started reading the loooooong awaited sequel to The Name of the Wind yesterday and – wow – The Wise Man's Fear WILL be one of the biggest fantasy releases of 2011. Just an awesome read...

Come to come shortly.

You do know that you'll have to give us your general impressions of the book.:smileyhappy:

I figure that since we have to wait, and you don't, a responsibility arises on your part to let us know, in general terms, if you're enjoying the book and what you like about it.

Absolutely, dalnewt! I won't ruin anything for anyone but I will give you my "general impressions," of course!   :smileyhappy:

Oooo Paul,

You are such a tease to us. ;D  I am really looking forward to this one in March.  I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it as well.  I am hoping it will line up nicely with where we stopped at.

This is a trilogy right?  It's been a while since I looked into it and can't remember.

Thanks!

Yes, Melissa, it's a projected trilogy. I'm almost halfway through The Wise Man's Fear – it's massive! So far, I'm enjoying it....

Awesome! I had almost given up hope that it would ever be published.  Do you have any idea when the 3rd book is projected to come out? Do we have years to wait again?

Paul, I hope that you're not completely overwhelmed by the task you've undertaken. I know I would be. Anytime you're ready, we're waiting for your thoughts.:smileyhappy:

Well, it exceeded my wildest hopes.... it was filled with plot twists, it was simultaneously grand-scale and intimate, it was a book that I lost myself in for a week...

It was a book that I'll always love, a book that I already want to read again, a book that left me literally going nuts knowing that I will have to wait several years for the conclusion...

An instant fantasy classic.

Thank god that I haven't waited in vain!:smileyvery-happy: It's too bad you wrote the review anonymously. I'd like to read it.

Re: The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss

OMG. Guess who was asked by PW to interview Patrick Rothfuss for an upcoming feature?!?

Wow – it was the highlight of the year so far! The PW piece comes out on January 31st – I'll definitely repost it here!

Heya Paul, I have been absent for a bit, did you ever re-post your interview with Patrick Rothfuss? Didn't see it in the boards and I'm curious about where he's headed with the story. The way this is going it seems like he's got a lot of balls in the air to finish this up in a trilogy. I liked the book, but the main character is getting a bit arrogant for my liking at the moment.

Brad:

My interview with Patrick (link below) was by far and away my most popular interview ever – 28,697 hits and going! I didn't really see Kvothe as arrogant – I found him endearing.

Hope you enjoy the interview!

Re: The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss

I finally finished this one and LOVED IT....  I cannot wait for the third, it seems all my favorite fantasy authors take too long to write books... I have already finished A Dance With Dragons by Martin as well... sigh... now I have years to wait...

any good ideas on what to read in the mean time...

I am not an orc/elf... classic fantasy type girl...stuff like this series and Song of Ice and Fire are more my speed.

Re: The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss

I just finished The Wise Man's Fear this afternoon, and I have to say that I did not think it was as good as The Name of the Wind.  I found the section dealing with Felurian to be particularly slow, and even the section about Kvothe's time with the Adem did not carry the same sense of tension/urgency I felt both with other parts of this book and the entire first book.

I'm not saying I didn't like The Wise Man's Fear; I still gave it a 4 out of 5, but I don't feel the same desire to own and reread this book as I did with The Name of the Wind.

It's also the middle installment so I kept that in mind – but that said, WOW, I literally can not wait for this last book!!!!

Re: The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss

So glad to hear that! I was in B&N yesterday and did the pickup/putdown thing a couple of times.  I read the first one but it was so long ago I'm like--what? who?.  Guess I will jump back in--mebbe take notes this time if it's a trilogy. Cheyanne
